Trivial Pursuit #5

Hello Folks,

Today we're going to have a "matching" question:

The Off-Broadway Musical DAMES AT SEA was a gentle "send-up" of the Broadway/Hollywood Musicals of the late 1920s/early 1930s.

EACH song in DAMES AT SEA was a parody of a popular song from that era.

Please tell us which song in DAAMES AT SEA was a parody of what popular song:

DAMES AT SEA Songs:

1) "Wall Street"

2) "It's You"

3) "That Mister Man of Mine"

4) "Choo-Choo Honeymoon"

5) "Singapore Sue"

ORIGIGNAL Songs:

a) "You're The Top"

b) "Shuffle Off to Buffalo"

c) "42nd Street"

d) "Bill"

e) "Shanghai Lil"

GOOD LUCK, everybody! :)

NO MORE CALLS, We have a Winner!

GREAT Job, Magruder!!! :)

Now for your bonus points: Who played Ruby in the original production of DAMES AT SEA?

re: Trivial Pursuit #5

Ah, come on. Little Bernadette Lazzara! I just sang her praises in the Bernadette thread.

Magruder,

You are the KING of Trivial Pursuit.

I stand in AWE of your knowledge! :)

I can also tell you that original Dick, David Christmas, became a hairdresser.

And Bonnie Franklin and Pia Zadora were among the replacements for Bernadette.

Brava magruder! You are really something else!
Glad you weren't around early yesterday to take the prize for my easy question. :) I am honored to be a fellow winner. :)

PS: Keep up the good/fun work Mary_Ethel.

Magruder,

You win the admiration of the ENTIRE board for your SUPERIOR knowledge.

And--I have arranged Bernadette Peters to come over to visit you this afternoon so she can admire your trivia skills in person. :)

But M_E, that's not really a prize. Magruder has always commanded the respect and admiration from the board. In fact I'm kicking back and listening to CARMELINA today. It was a recommendation he made eons ago. "All That He Wants of Me" is my new signature song.

If I were Magruder I'd hold out for some Halloween candy, like those little boxes of Junior Mints.
Rest in peace, Iflitifloat.

OK etoile,

One box of Junior Mints is on its way to Magruder--should I fax or email to him? :)

P.S. Seriously, Magruder DOES have an ASTOUNDING amount of knowledge about musical theater.

re: Trivial Pursuit #5

Magruder, whom I respect very much, can be stumped though.

re: Trivial Pursuit #5

It's hard, but it can, and it has happened.

re: Trivial Pursuit #5

Stumped? I'd like to know WHEN!

Ah...Carmelina. "One More Walk Around the Garden" is one of the loveliest songs ever. I'd say that Carmelina has one really stinko number..."Yankee Doodles Are Coming to Town". The rest though is always good, and frequently great. For a quick flop, it's pretty sturdy writing.

Wait, I take that back. Grace Keagy has a pretty bad number in Carmelina. The rest though? Lovely.

Magruder, you're a sweetie, and knowledgeable to boot.

Who can resist you?

re: Trivial Pursuit #5

Granted "Yankee Doodles..." may not be a strong song, but at least it was original and advanced the plot. Which really is more than can be said for a current B'way show that "borrowed" heavily from the plot and had no original music.

And how much a man of his time was Lerner with "I'm A Woman?"
Rest in peace, Iflitifloat.
