What well-loved British Musical from the 1930s didn't hit Broadway until 1986 but then had a WALLOPING run of over 1,000 performances?
GOOD LUCK, Everybody!!!

SORRY, Yorkie, MY ONE AND ONLY was an American Show that premiered the 1970s...
...but a GOOD guess!
Care to try again?

Me and My Girl?
I second Glebb. If that counts.

Glebb, OF COURSE it was ME AND MY GIRL!!!
YEP, that tale about that free-livin' Cockney Bill Snibson who suddenly inherits an old family fortune took fifty years to cross the Atlantic--but when it find made it, it made it in a BIG way!
CONGRATULATIONS, Glebb!!!
Now for your bonus points:
What did they do for entertainment in Lambeth (Bill's home town)?
It was so energizing, it had the cast dancing in the aisles of the Theatre!
(And was a popular dance in BOTH the U.S.A. and U.K. as well).
...I guess Ellie and Tiff got honorable mentions...
Cakewalk? (grits teeth and shrugs shoulders)
SORRY, Glebb.
Ellie--
Tiff--
Do either of YOU know the bonus points answer?

Yes, of course I do, M_E...but I want to give someone else a chance.

The Lambeth Strut (was the song).

Well done, Glebb. Poor boy, he's still learning.
Ellie--you're running away from a prize, fame and fortune?

Hey, no fair!! I was going to say that, but Me & My Girl didn't appear on Broadway until 1986. Obviously it was a very misleading question.
But does the step resemble the Cakewalk?
I believe the title is Lambert Walk, isn't it?
*hides*
Could be. Those commercials were on so long ago. :)
I never saw the show though Mr. Joffrey advised us all to see it.
He thought the star was a physical genius.
OK. OK.
Glebb pretty much got it.
The title of the song was "The Lambeth Walk."
GOOD Going, Glebb!!!
You always do QUITE WELL at Trivial Pursuit!
And your prize?
Well, you've just found out that your the heir to a VERY OLD and large English family fortune!
But Glebb, please be careful--the family will fight against you TOOTH AND NAIL to keep you away from that fortune--so PLEASE try and act like a proper "English Gentleman"
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, guys!
Wha--no fair! I corrected him! Don't I get part of that fortune?
(Is this the part where the young bucks in the board create a killer of a modern musical question for you?)
"The Lambeth Walk":
Lambeth you've never seen
The skies ain't blue, the grass ain't green
It hasn't got the Mayfair touch
But that don't matter very much
We play the Lambeth way
Not like you but a bit more gay
And when we have a bit of fun
Oh, Boy
Anytime you're Lambeth way
Any evening, any day
You'll find us all doin' the Lambeth walk
Ev'ry little Lambeth gal
With her little Lambeth pal
You'll find 'em all doin' the Lambeth walk
Ev'rything's free and easy
Do as you darn well pleasey
Why don't you make your way there
Go there, stay there
Once you get down Lambeth way
Ev'ry evening, ev'ry day
You'll find yourself doin' the Lambeth walk
Anytime you're Lambeth way
Any evening, any day
You'll find us all doin' the Lambeth walk
Ev'ry little Lambeth gal
With her little Lambeth pal
You'll find 'em all doin' the Lambeth walk
Ev'rything's free and easy
Do as you darn well pleasey
Why don't you make your way there
Go there, stay there
Once you get down Lambeth way
Ev'ry evening, ev'ry day
You'll find yourself doin' the Lambeth walk
Anytime you're Lambeth way
Any evening, any day
You'll find us all doin' the Lambeth walk
Ev'ry little Lambeth gal
With her little Lambeth pal
You'll find 'em all doin' the Lambeth walk
Ev'rything's free and easy
Do as you darn well pleasey
Why don't you make your way there
Go there, stay there
Once you get down Lambeth way
Ev'ry evening, ev'ry day
You'll find yourself
Doin' the Lambeth-
Doin' the Lambeth--
Doin' the Lambeth walk!!!

Gotham--I apologize. If the family throws Glebb out, YOU get the family fortune.
Tiff--I'll give you a buck for persistence.
And by ALL MEANS, this would be the PERFECT time to ask me something about CAROLINE, OR CHANGE and AVENUE Q. I'm sure I can impress the whole Board with my ignorance on them as well.
By the way, the star who Mr. Joffrey was so impressed by was English Shakespearean actor Robert Lindsay, who incidentally was first choice to play Max Bialystock in the West End production of THE PRODUCERS. Rumour hath it that he might still be a replacement in the near future...
i saw ME & MY GIRL both in the West End and then on B'way...the female romantic lead in the West End by the time i saw it? none other than Emma Thompson, belting and tapping away. This was prior to playing one of Frasier's ex-wives (a folksinger hippie type) on CHEERS, marrying and divorcing Mr. Branaugh, and her Oscar wins. She was enchanting.
