#1TurboTax is Junk--Check If They Really Filed Your Return
Posted: 4/18/07 at 5:03pm
Last night TurboTax said i had successfully submitted my returns. Fortunately, I printed out that claim.
Today when I went to check tax authority acknowledgement TurboTax now says I haven't efiled my returns.
I found their service to be particulary lousy this year and am looking for a new tax software to use to file.
This is their latest notice from their website:
Electronic Filing Delays and Status
Update, 1:30 pm PDT, April 18 - Outstanding issues with our servers have been resolved and we are currently processing all customers' returns and requests for status checks at a normal rate. We have worked with the IRS this morning to ensure that returns will be considered as timely filed. Intuit customers using TurboTax software to electronically file their U.S. federal income taxes won't be penalized so long as they file their returns by midnight, April 19th. We are reaching out to the state tax authorities to determine each state's position; we'll provide more information as we receive it.
Note: If you were affected by the April 16th winter storms in the Northeast, your federal deadline has been extended until April 26th.
We encourage customers to continue trying to e-file; if you have been unable to successfully transmit, please try again.
To verify that your return was transmitted successfully, please follow these instructions:
1. Go to www.turbotax.com and select the “Check E-file Status” link on the top-left of the page.
2. Follow the directions to check your e-file status.
3. If you do not see a status, please resubmit your returns through e-file.
4. When you resubmit, if you get a message that the return has already been filed under your social security number, you will need to call us at 1-888-777-3303 to ensure that your returns were accepted by the IRS. Please have the primary social security number and the zip code for the return available when you call.
5. If your resubmission is successful, wait a few minutes, then please check your status to ensure that the return has been received at Intuit. You should receive confirmation of acceptance or rejection within 24 to 48 hours.
E-File Status Delays
The server delays also affected customers trying to check on the status of their electronically filed returns. If you have been unsuccessful with checking status, please try again now. Go to www.turbotax.com and select the "Check E-file Status" link at the top left of the page.
E-File Status of "Pending"
If your return's status is "pending," it's been received and transmitted to the appropriate tax authorities. Be sure to check the status of your return within the next 24 to 48 hours.
Acknowledgement Delays
Due to the high volume, acknowledgements from the taxing authorities may be later than usual.
Important: If you have transmitted your return more than once and you use our desktop version of TurboTax, you should be charged for electronic filing fees only once. Fees are charged only once per primary social security number. However, if you receive multiple charges, please submit a request for a refund through our email tool. (Go to Contact Us, choose the "E-Mail Us" link, then select "How Do I Get a Refund" from the dropdown menu). Also, if you are paying your taxes via direct debit or via credit card, your taxes will be withdrawn from your account only once despite multiple transmissions.
