I'm watching Turner Classic Movies on Hi Def. They're showing THE ROARING TWENTIES, not a widescreen film, but they've made it fill the 16 x 9 screen by cutting off the top and bottom of the image. The correct image can be seen on the regular TCM channel. It has been like this for a couple of days -- the other day a subtitled film was being shown and the subtitles were cut off.
Is anyone else noticing this? Is it Time Warner Cable screwing with the image, or have I inadertently screwed up my settings?
No, it's not you Roscoe. IFC HD does this too. I don't think it's a TW issue, it's the channels themselves who don't know what they're doing.
It's terrible and I'd rather they didn't even have an HD channel than this crap. I've DVR'd a bunch of movies on the HD channel only to delete them when I saw some were the 16x9 pan-and-scan hack job like you just saw. Atrocious.

It only recently started doing this within the last few days. I'm appalled. I can't believe that TCM is doing this. I mean, IFC just stretches the image out to the side, they're not cutting the top and bottom off the image like TCM does.
