Twilight, in film or novel, is something you like or don't like, but what I find fascinating is how this has created a cultural phenomenon in the Northwest.
Forks, Washington has become a mecca for young travelers from all over the world, boosting the local economy while the usual tourist spots like Port Townsend have noticed a slump in tourist activity with the recession.
A new documentary was filmed this summer in an attempt to capture something of the Twilight phenomenon's impact on the northwest town of Forks. Summit Entertainment plans to bundle this documentary with the DVD release of New Moon.

(No, I'm not affiliated with the documentary, but I have witnessed the phenomenon first hand.)

Posted: 9/16/09 at 5:45pmI'm sure you'll be absolutely SHOCKED to know this, but...though the places Stephenie Meyer wrote about are real, she definitely wrote about them with complete disregard for the actual geography of the area. (Mostly referring to travel times, but whatever.)
