Cathy--I don't go to UMich, but i grew up in Ann Arbor and have been going to the shows there for 10 or so years (till this year; i'm away at college). from the audience's perspective, the program is EXCELLENT, especially the Musical Theater. I don't think we have ever been dissappointed by a musical we saw there, and we've seen lots. good luck with your application!

Weird. I was just going to post about this exact topic last night. Anyway, can someone PM me who is majoring or has majored in Musical Theatre there? I've seen the website, and I'm very interested in the program. I'm looking for as many people as possible's personal opinion of the training. Thanks in advance.

It's Gavin Creel in his high school yearbook (class president picture). I think he looks adorable in it. :)

speaking of Gavin and UMich... I saw him play Harold Hill in the Music Man there! i was 11 so I don't remember much about it, but my mom said he was "stupendous"

they have a very strong musical theatre program. you should definatley look into it, but understand that it's very difficult to get into.

do they really? i knew that they had a good general music program, but i never heard that much about musical theatre. i think i'm gonna apply there too!

I've heard that too. Michelle Federer went there (as did Matt Cavenaugh). I asked Michelle about it in an interview I did and she said:

"I recommend their program because it’s a holistic approach to studying musical theatre. Meaning they don’t separate the “acting” students from the “musical theatre”. All three elements that a person who does musicals needs (voice, acting, dance) are given great attention. I was able to move easily between doing plays and musicals because I was seen as an actress. Just a side note: Ithaca is absolutely beautiful and has a ton of great restaurants and shops."

Well, I like them!
I got to work for one of them doing lighting for A CHORUS LINE...in which the lighting was amazing.

She said they usually all go into respectable jobs after graduating...but that's a whole 'nother department that I'm not really in on.

Sooo I'm not much help there!
