US POSTAL SERVICE'S ANNUAL FOOD DRIVE

Every year the postal service conducts a food drive on Mother's Day weekend. Last year millions of lbs of boxed and canned foods were collected on Long Island alone and it was all distributed to sites that feed the hungry.

This Saturday is the time when the collection is being taken up. Please put canned or boxed foor (like pasta) in your mailbox. Your letter carrier will collect it and it will all be taken to a central location. You may also hang a bag of canned food from your mailbox if that's more practical.

Help feed the hungry!

The truly beautiful should be lawfully restricted from wearing clothing; and the truly butt-ugly should be lawfully mandated from going naked.

This is a good idea. People usually just donate food at Christmas food drives. The thing is it's a year round need to feed the hungry. Good items to donate are: canned soups with protein, peanut butter, canned fruit and veggies, tuna, dry milk powder, baby food, mac and cheese, beans and rice.

Liam, I am very shocked at your remark! Just because she is fat doesn't mean she eats everything in sight. Obesity is a terminal disease that needs treatment, not ignorant and cruel remarks such as yours. Would you make fun of her if she had cancer?

I agree, this is an extremely important cause. Believe me, I know how it feels to be on the receiving of all of this. On many occasions I have found myself with groceries. Sometimes it has to be a decision of paying rent, buying medicine, paying utilities or eating. Which one should I pick this month? Most local food pantries are nearly bare by February because people just donate in December. I believe that some people view those who are in such need of neccessities as mere "bums" in search of a handout. Many such as myself, don't have families to depend on for basic needs. I strongly urge everyone to but a few cans of nonperishable food on Saturday in their mailboxes. You might be helping someone you know.

Go through your cupboards and find the canned items that you haven't touched...like beets. Instead of sitting in the back of your cabinet, that can of beets might serve as someone's meal and get them through the night.

Woops, wrong date!!!!!! I got this infor from our local radio station (a Clear Channel outlet) and they've been running corrective announcements. The Postal Service's food drive will be NEXT Saturday, April 14th. Don't put yout food out this weekend because it'll be all yucky when they finally pick it up.
