Unbelievable!!!

Good lord!!! I just randomly got a new roommate, and there are what...4 weeks left in the semester?!?!?! What the hell!?!?!? I've got 4 term papers, a research project, and lord knows what else in between. I was really looking forward to having a quiet peaceful last few weeks(well, in my own room in our two-bedroom double...the other two roommates are always going to be up until 4 am being loud and obnoxious, but I'd gotten used to that!) I realize I've been spoiled the last couple of months, but wouldn't you think they wouldn't have people moving in at the tail end of the semester? Next week is Thanksgiving break, and then it's time to start working on Finals. I can already tell I'm going to be beyond swamped with work, and "making friends" with a new roommate isn't exactly on the top of my To Do list! My other two roommates just love her, because within five minutes of being here she told them she's 24 and can buy them liquor...SUPER! I'm already pretty low key, but as soon as finals come around, I swing into SuperNerd mode, and I have a sneaking suspicion that this is going to be a bit of a problem! Just had to vent!!! Thanks folks!

re: Unbelievable!!!

Vent away! I have had too many horrendous roommates, which is why I live paycheck to paycheck just to live alone and not deal with them any more. Maybe things will change next semester. Who knows? Thanksgiving is almost here...

re: Unbelievable!!!

I've had to switch roommates, but luckily both of mine have been pretty tame. A friend of mine once ended up with a roommate who claimed she threatened her and tried to get her tossed from the school. To give you a little perspective on this, my friend is less than 5 feet tall and skinny as a rail. re: Unbelievable!!!

re: Unbelievable!!!

I've had terrible luck w/ roommates...even the one's I've gotten along with have ended up being TOTALLY crazy! Oh well, I've just got to stick it out until the end of the semester. A friend is leaving after this semester, so I'm going to (knock on wood) move into her room (a double that is about the size of our quad w/ a real kitchen...we have a mini fridge and a two-burner range, and for a person w/o a meal plan, it kind of sucks!) Anyway, off to do homework, might as well soak up the quiet time while I still can!!!

BUMP...

Just an update on the roommate situation, because it's just so crazy, I feel the need to tell as many people as humanly possible!!!

First off, the new roommate is not enrolled as a student. When I found out Tuesday night I was royally pissed! How can you be living in the dorms if you're a not a metriculated student? Doesn't make sense. I had a roommate last year that got dumped from housing because she was on academic probation. She was swiftly removed. The RA kept coming to the door asking if she was in, and then one day (at 3 am) she just moved out! Never to return, leaving only a note on the refigerator, some rotten salad in the fridge and a gallon of vegetable oil (which she so kindly willed to us in her departure note!)

So anyway, she ended up sleeping until like 4pm yesterday (and dolt that I am, I just tip toed around the room in the dark between classes...until 4 pm!!! That's it, new rule: The lights go on at noon, whether you like it or not!) So, I go back to class at 4:30 and when I got back at quarter of nine, she wasn't there. Okay, no big deal. I toodle around on-line, send a couple e-mails, read, watch some TV...So, by 1, I've watched Leno and Conan, I shut the lights out to go to sleep (having already heard the scuttlebut from my regular roommates that the new roommie (NR) might just work at a Gentleman's Club). I'm starting to get a little curious about it, but NR has yet to return (adding some fuel to the fire of speculation). That leads us to this morning. She comes in at 5 am, totally made up, turns on all the lights saying "What time is it? I just got off work!" No. Absolutely not! No way am I living with a non-student who works at a strip club (or anywhere until 5am for that matter). I was like "You know what? I'm a full time student. That's my job, and it starts at 8 am tomorrow...er, today!" I understand that a lot of people have to work while there at school (I only have work study, but some people work full time, and you have to make things work; that's fine...it's fine when they're STUDENTS! It is NOT fine when you aren't enrolled and have the total luxury of sleeping all day, while everybody else has to go to class!) Needless to say, I'll be having a little chat with the RA. Sorry sweetie, but you've just officially pushed me over the line, and now you're going to have to face the wrath of 20 years of pent up aggression that I've accumulated from having not stood up for myself! Not anymore. It's a real pity.

That's it for now...This is just unbelievable! I couldn't make this stuff up!!!

re: Unbelievable!!!

Oh my gosh, I'm sorry! That's really annoying. She's not a student?? Get her out of there, I think you have every right.
Why do we play with fire? Why do we run our fingers through the flame? Why do we leave our hands on the stove, although we know we're in for some pain? -tick...tick...BOOM!

Mabel...I've learned in my 44 years on this earth that if you ALLOW people to walk on you like you're a door mat they'll just keep doing it and eventually they'll start wiping their dirty feet on you. You MUST put a stop to this RIGHT NOW !!! Don't put it off because it will just get worse...believe me.
Good Luck !!!

re: Unbelievable!!!

Thanks. I think I'll need it! I've been putting up with **** from my other two roommates this year mostly because I had the room to myself, and as obnoxious as they could get, I could always just shut the door, do my thing, and call it a day. This, on the other hand, is not something that I can just put on the back burner. I've done two and a half years of letting people walk all over me in my dorm life, but yeah, I've pretty much had it. Shall be interesting to see what happens. I think I've got a room set up for next semester (a friend is graduating early) but I still shouldn't have to put up with this for the rest of this semester, with finals coming up! Oy!

re: Unbelievable!!!

We SuperNerds need to stick together. I did homework the night Oct. 30th this year, which was probably the biggest party night of the semester. But hey, getting good grades is fun, hmm? re: Unbelievable!!!

re: Unbelievable!!!

This story reminds me of some of my experiences with room mates in the Navy.

I'm now an (old) part time undergrad, but at least I don't have to put up with the dorm crap.

And we all know what happened with the roommates in the navy.

re: Unbelievable!!!

But Mabel, is she hot?
PEACE.

re: Unbelievable!!!

well, logic would dictate that if she's a stripper, she's hot. But then again, I've seen some damned ugly strippers in my day.

re: Unbelievable!!!

She's not all that pretty...actually, I don't think she's really a stipper, I think she just works there (a waitress or a bar tender...though she had crazy scary makeup on when she came in this morning. If I'd been able to fall back asleep, I know I would have had crazy nightmares!) At least, that's the jist I got from my other two roommates...haven't really had a chance to talk to her about it personally yet, because I've either been at class, she's been sleeping, or "at work" for all but an hour or so over the two days she's been here. This weekend should be interesting though...talked to my RA and she basically said (since I'm planning on moving into a friend's room next semester) "It's only a month, I'm sure you can learn to deal with it! If she's sleeping in the room during the afternoon, that's what they have the computer labs/study lounge for." (Yeah! Thanks for the help!) I suppose I'll play "let's try to compromise" for a bit, but I'm not going to bend over backwards to accomodate her crazy schedule. I've got 18 credits worth of classes, and I'm not going to play tip toe around the bedroom in the dark until 5 pm.
