Uncle Bobby's Wedding is likely to be this year's King and King or And Tango Makes Three
A librarian in Colorado has posted his response to a woman who challenged the book at his library. Her objections include that the book "the book is specifically designed to normalize gay marriage and is targeted toward the 2-7 year old age group." The response is very well written and respectful while making important points about Intellectual Freedom.
Just an excerpt:
"You feel that a book about gay marriage is inappropriate for young children. But another book in our collection, “Daddy's Roommate,” was requested by a mother whose husband left her, and their young son, for another man. She was looking for a way to begin talking about this with son. Another book, “Alfie's Home,” was purchased at the request of another mother looking for a way to talk about the suspected homosexuality of her young son from a Christian perspective. There are gay parents in Douglas County, right now, who also pay taxes, and also look for materials to support their views. We don't have very many books on this topic, but we do have a handful."
The rest of the letter
As a mother of 2 young children, I think this book would be a great way to introduce the topic. And I think the younger they are talked to about it, the less judgemental adults they will be. I could be wrong, but I would think so anyway.
That was a terrific letter!

I DO NOT think children should be exposed to Guinea Pig weddings at such a young age!
But Joe the library has to serve the entire county and there may be parents who are looking for a good way to explain guinea pig weddings to their children.
That was an extraordinary letter! I am going to bookmark it for future reference!
Thank you for sharing it with us!

Today they're referred to as The Cavy Community, not Guinea Pigs.
