Is that the way to do it? I'm behind a router so it shouldn't be too risky to uninstall the old and quickly install the new, right?

Yes, if it's McAfee, they can take control of your computer and do it for you while you're on the phone with them.

The guy had a sexy voice. It was kind of hot.

It shouldn't be that risky, no. And running two anti-virus programs at once is a huge CPU-drainer, especially if one of them is Norton. My best answer - I'm not an expert here - is that you should uninstall the old one first, to prevent the new one from "fighting" with it when it's installed. If it makes you feel better, disconnect from the Internet for the time it takes to make the change.

Thanks guys. I currently have Eset's Nod 32 which has been unbelievably unobtrusive and lightweight when it comes to system resources. I like it but when it's time for a renewal I'm not sure I want to cough up money for it when there is now the free Microsoft Security Essentials (which has received good reviews overall).

Plum...I have AVG on my spare computer and, like you, I'm happy with it.
