Upcoming U.S. Senate Races#1

Posted: 4/23/08 at 2:05pm

Down in my birth state of NC, GOP incumbent Elizabeth "Libby" Dole is seeking re-election. The leading Dem contender is investment banker, divorced father of two and openly gay Jim Neal. Though this is Mr. Neal's first attempt at elective office, he's plugged into the Dem machinery at the national level. Should be an interesting race.

I'm voting for Jim Neal!

It won't matter in the general election. Republicans Richard Burr and Libby Dole have nothing to fear. (Burr isn't up for reelection this time around.)

ETA: I take that back. I meant to say there's a SMALL chance we'd elect a democrat for the US Senate, but most likely it'd be Burr's slot where that could happen and not Dole's (unless Dole is hated and I'm unaware of it). Updated On: 4/24/08 at 02:15 AM

What really amazed during a recent visit to the state was the amound of geriatric bashing John McCain received from some family members and childhood friends. Yet, no mention was made of the fact that both Libby Dole and he are 71 yrs old. Then again the Tarheel state is the one that allowed Jesse Helms to stay in the US Senate 30 yrs.
