Well I'm thinking of auditioning for Urinetown. I just saw an audition for it in a town near by for the end of August. I'd feel bad kind of abandoning my school's drama department for the fall season (it performs in November) plus I'm President of the drama council this year... so it's a dilema.
But, that aside what would you suggest as a good audiiton song? (I need an uptempo and a ballad) I'm a 17 year old mezzo-soprano I'm not sure what role I'll be going for though. I'm not expecting a big role I'd be happy with chorus however I think I MIGHT tailor my audition towards Sally. ANy suggestions?

I know it's always suggested for this role (the characters even have the same name . . . ) but "My New Philosophy" from Charlie Brown would fit the bill.

Not sure but perhaps you could pull off ANYTHING'S POSSIBLE
from SUESSICAL? *going out on a limb here

No one wants to see a musical called Thoroughly Modern Mildred.

Someone auditioned with that song (Seussical) and got into the production of Urinetown that I just did.

My New Philosophy is also good (and always suggested).

I've been getting My New Philosophy a lot... And I was thinking about it but doesn't it have a fair ammount of Dialouge and Schroder?

...how do you modify it?

you could cut the bars out that Schroeder sings and skip right into the other stuff. Or just do the last part of the song .

There's a solo version published in one of the Singers' Musical Theatre Anthology Mezzo/Belter volumes.
