Urinetown: who's doing it? — Page 2

I saw it at Frostburg State a couple of weeks ago.

There was an article in the NYTIMES today about productions being sued for using the original design and dir/chor.

Did the productions mentioned here use the Bway version or did they do something different?

I was in a community college production of it this past October.

I played Tiny Tom, Dr. Billeaux, and a Cop. I was running around constantly changing my costume - I was in every scene (and all but 2 songs). It was so much fun!!! I love Urinetown!

I surprised about this lawsuit - we went with a completely different direction - our director didn't want the audience to play "spot the parody" game. Our "Snuff the Girl" didn't even use the "Cool" motif for our choreography - our Little Sally choreographed it - on the Monday before we opened on Thursday! But I enjoyed the show and my fellow castmates!

I liked our staging though. On the main stage, we don’t have much room (on purpose), but that’s where Cladwell’s office is located and the Amenity is (switched out of course). We also have two steps that go down to where the pit could be (our orchestra is behind our balcony that overlooks Cladwell’s/Amenity sets) and that’s the secret hideout. It’s fun acting on the same level of the audience. My high school’s auditorium was like this too. I like this three tier set…it looks interesting. Our orchestra can be seen behind a chain link fence. It’s different than anything I have seen on Youtube
