Ok, so I'm about to make a pilgrimage to NYC next week, and I am trying to find a place to get used books and CDs. I know about Strand (do they sell CDs?) and the Colony (too pricy) are there any others I should know about?

Academy on 18th Street between 5th and 6th Aves has great used CDs. There's a pretty good used bookstore across the street, Skyline Books. You can also check out a place on 12th Street, West of University Place, called I think 12th Street Books.

The Strand doesn't sell many CDs, but their inventory of DVDs has expanded and so has the quality.
All that used to be there was public domain stuff and items like Dude, Where's My Car?, but lately there has been some highbrow DVDs (The Hours) and also more of the same type.
Most of the inventory is in the basement.
Here's a second vote for Academy. It is a must-stop-in on your trip.

Call this a stupid question, but will I find things besides the basic cast albums at Academy? Nothing fancy, but I don't really need another copy of the Oklahoma! OBCR.

Dear Husky,
No question is stupid. I mean look what's in The White House.
Academy's cast recording/soundtrack section is comparatively small. There is a huge classical section along with sizeable jazz and rock sections.
There is a what I call 'pop' section which has cabaret artists and singers of the Great American Songbook and small sections of International recordings, anthologies of a sort, and a few spoken word/comedy.
There are also some DVDs.
It is a veritable wonderland and most of the time it is the luck of the draw what is there. If you don't buy it when you see it, there is every chance it won't be there when you get back.

Thanks WOSQ
I'll probably find something, I usually do in used stores, but I think after a year and a half, I have tapped out everything in my area...
There's also a used book/dvd store on 40th or 41st off Madison that is fairly large too--just can't think of what it's called...
