I was wondering if anybody knew of any research into a hybrid car that made use of built in wind turbines. I know wind energy is very scalable, and it would make sense to me to use them to help recharge an electric cars batteries. Would they just not create enough energy for the amount of energy it would take to turn the blades? Not cost effective at this point? I tried looking online, but i couldn't find any talk about it at all. Anyone else here knowledgeable enough to give an opinion?

*Edit: I found arguments back and forth in this forum. http://www.whynot.net/ideas/720 *

I am not knowledgable about this, but at this point I say anything that will make us less dependant on foreign oil is worth investigating.

I wish people would give wind turbines more of a chance. There has been talk (especially here in the Windy City, haha) of putting them offshore, on top of skyscrapers, etc. but many people object due to aesthetic reasons. I guess I understand, but at this point we NEED a new energy source, and though wind isn't 100% reliable it's there a lot, enough to create and store energy a lot more freely than oil is.
