When you're in a show, do you use your real voice or do you create a voice for the character?
Depends on the character. I'm a legit voice soprano and I was little red riding hood when I was 15 (she's supposed to be nine), so I didn't. Then that same year I was Meg in Little Women and I did use my real voice.

Same, when I played Iago in Aladdin I made myself a little whinier, tried to place most of my singing in my mix, not so much lower tarzan. When I played bit parts in Oliver! and Cabaret everyone was required an accent. It depends.
For example, a character that I've sung (not in context of a show) is Anthony from Sweeney. For him I use my voice but I try to make it more innocent and naive, he's taken aback by this beautiful person and rashly professes his love to her from afar, vowing to protect her and everything. I mean, creepy much? Even if you use your voice without a huge accent, little things always change, or should anyway.
