Has anyone watched? It really was a trip down memory lane for me growing up in the 70’s and 80’s. The Slab Boys footage was precious. Penn and Bacon were so young! I remember when Val did plays at the Guthrie in Minneapolis. He was such a handsome young actor.
Having his son narrate was very smart given he sounds like his father. I always thought Val was a tad wooden but I think the opportunities he accepted didn’t always compliment him. He was quite playful off screen.
He gets 2 points for having such a good relationship with his adult children.

It would have been so easy for this just to be a vanity project, but I appreciated how in-depth it went into what Val considered his failures as well as his successes.
I always knew him from Top Gun and Red Planet growing up, and I always thought of him as a Hollywood movie star. I never knew how passionately he cared about his craft, and how much work he put into his roles.
I think this is essential viewing for any acting student.

He had a very strong theatre background and probably should have kept returning to the stage. He got roped into making money based on his looks. I would be curious to go back and watch Top Secret because he does seem to have a sense of humor about things.
