I adore Gwen in Damn Yankees, but for those with sustained film careers I pick Charisse and Miller.
And the Nicholas Brothers' number in Stormy Weather may be my favorite dance number ever captured on film.
Fred Astaire is THE MAN. I like Kelly but I think pretty much all of his dancing looks the same (but, it's my opinion), same with Miller. I do love Cyd Charisse though.
Gene Kelly and Ann Miller. :) I could watch Gene for hours. Cyd Charisse is also fantastic.
I also love me some Tommy Rall!

Vera-Ellen's weight was such a shame. At her tiniest, her waist was 18 inches (as seen in White Christmas). If you watch her earlier movies, she was a curvy girl. MGM ordered her to lose weight upon signing a contract with them. They also forced her to get a nose job because her nose was "too wide".
Very unfortunate. She was probably the most brilliant female dancer of her time. Everyone can and will have their favorites, but there is no denying that she was the most polished and versatile dancer in the century. She was so precise in everything she did. Fred Astaire himself said she was the most talented and dedicated dancer he ever worked with.
The only reason Fred and Ginger complimented each other so well was because of their on screen chemistry. Ginger was first and foremost an actress who could just tap really well. She was by no means a "dancer".
Vera-Ellen was the tops. :)
