GOP to Air Ad Warning of Terror Attacks
Oct 19 6:25 PM US/Eastern

By JIM KUHNHENN
Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON

The Republican Party will begin airing a hard-hitting ad this weekend that warns of more cataclysmic terror attacks against the U.S. homeland.
The ad portrays Osama bin Laden and quotes his threats against America dating to February 1998. "These are the stakes," the ad concludes. "Vote November 7."

Brian Jones, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee, said the ad would run on national cable beginning Sunday, but he declined to discuss specifics of the buy.

The commercial tracks with Republican Party strategy to make the war on terrorism a central theme of this election. It will air as recent polls show Republicans losing ground as the party best able to combat terrorism.

Last month, President Bush made the war against terrorism a recurrent topic in public appearances. But his message was drowned out by the e- mail sex scandal involving former Republican Rep. Mark Foley of Florida and by increasing fatalities in Iraq.

The ad displays an array of quotes from bin Laden and his top lieutenant, Ayman al-Zawahiri, that include bin Laden's Dec. 26, 2001 vow that "what is yet to come will be even greater."

The ad also cites al-Zawahri's claim to have obtained "some suitcase bombs," followed by a scene that appears to show a nuclear explosion.

Despite al-Zawahri's claim, portable nuclear devices are believed to be particularly difficult to produce, and elusive to rogue regimes and terror groups. "The degree of difficulty goes way up as the size of the device gets smaller," a senior U.S. official said this week, briefing reporters this week on condition of anonymity.

The ad is also featured on the RNC's Web site. The party said the ad, called "The Stakes," will be e-mailed to millions of GOP supporters, activists and the state parties.

Great, nothing like fear to motivate the masses.

Fear mongering much? Ok... I'm not going to go into a speil here but this is down right fishy. This is as fishy as the time the "missing" 9/11 911 calls that were released. Or the time other remains were found recently on the Fitterman Building.

While it is easy to speculate that 9/11 was some vast conspiracy it's not something I do. The aftermath is what upsets me most. We were told everything was recovered that could be recovered. These post 9/11 "discoveries" keep sending people like my family further back to that horrific day. Something's not right here.

Medical Examiner Studying WTC Remains

October 20, 2006

The city is scrambling to find out why human remains were found at the World Trade Center site Thursday, more than five years after the attacks of 9/11.

Medical examiners sifted through dirt and debris at a Con Edison facility Thursday found large pieces of bones in debris removed from the southern end of the site.

Officials say the utility workers vacuumed out two manholes at the Trade Center site in preparation for new buildings when they uncovered the remains. After moving the debris back to their re-fueling station at 29th Street and 11th Avenue, they noticed it contained human remains and called the medical examiner’s office to confirm.

As many family members of 9/11 victims expressed outrage at the possible oversight, Mayor Michael Bloomberg called an emergency meeting at City Hall to discuss the situation with administration officials including the police and fire commissioners.

Bloomberg says he wants to find out how the remains were overlooked for so long. He says the city will now scour the site again and check other manholes that may have been overlooked.

"This was an enormous disaster, it's an enormous area and I think those that did the recovery effort did the best they could and you can't be perfect, unfortunately when something is this big," said Bloomberg by way of explanation. "But their hearts were in it and they did a very good job."

Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta echoed the sentiment and pledged to continue searching for more remains.

"I'm very proud of the work our people did; I continue to remain so and we will now, with this new development, apply the same comprehensive approach with multi-agency involvement and we will make sure to the extent possible any remains there will be found and all efforts will made to identify them," said Scoppetta.

The discovery has left advocates for 9/11 families wondering what else could still be at the site.

"Con Ed did the right thing calling the city in, they did the right thing," said Charles Wolf, whose wife perished in the attacks. Her remains were never identified. "We appreciate that being done, I mean they found themselves in a situation, and they handled it correctly. What really bothers me is that they had to find it. How in the world did this happen."

But family members are also puzzled and frustrated that remains are still being uncovered over five years after the Twin Towers collapsed.

"How in the world did this happen? I mean this to me is quite amazing. How in the world did it happen after we were told, so thoroughly that things were looked for? I know there were people down there looking,” said Wolf.

"I don't know if all of these people who are being lured to New York and who are being lured to downtown Manhattan, would they like to know that they are going to be living among the human remains of the victims of 9/11?” said Sally Regenhard, who lost her son on 9/11. “That is something that needs to be on the front page."

The city councilman who represents the district where the Trade Center once stood says more has to be done to find remains correctly.

“The ability, the technology, the expert personnel exist to do the job properly, so there is no reason why this should have happened. And there’s certainly no reason why this should happen again,” said City Councilmember Alan Gerson.

The discovery also came months after dozens of bone fragments were discovered during the demolition of the Deutsche Bank building in the spring.

Wolf says someone needs to step in to conduct a thorough search, if only for the sake of all the families still grieving.

"We have come to the point in this whole recovery process and we’re raising questions about what are we going to find on top of the Fitterman Building, what else is down there? We need somebody who has extensive experience in dealing with finding remains. The military's JPAC unit is what several of us have been calling for,” said Wolf.

"How many times do the 9/11 families have to wake up to news headlines that scream out 'Human Remains found at ground zero'," added attorney, Normal Siegel.

The remains of over 11 victims were never found after 9/11.

A city official says police and forensic experts were back at the site Friday and expect to find more remains. The medical examiner's office now says it should be able to identify some of them.
