Heard this on the news this morning, so I googled it and found this article (evidently it's over a month old, but the morning news decided to air it today).
The WGA strike will cost the California economy a projected 37,700 jobs and $2.1 billion in lost output through the end of 2008, according to a report from the Milken Institute.
Ugh

We know people who lost their homes, some who lost their jobs and a couple who lost their independent businesses. The effect was much more far-reaching than people realized - things I never would have associated with the industry, but are actually dependent on it's survival.
Very scary - but also the reason that most people view the bottom line here VERY seriously.

I am feeling it. I lost 1/3 of my yearly income for the shop during that strike. Luckily I had some display work to do to tide me over otherwise I would be in a cardboard box underneath the Brooklyn Bridge just feet from that "FABULOUS" 15.5 million dollar waterfall!
