I just saw this movie and was wondering if anyone else had seen it. Unfortunately, it seems as if a large number of viewers refuse to watch it past the point where (SPOILER)
Zooey Deschanel kills her cat.
COME. ON.
Are we really that immature that we can't deal with the death of a fictional cat that was going to die anyway and unable to get care from Zooey's character?
But if you watch past that, you will find an extraordinarily bleak and beautiful film with excellent performances from Ed Harris and Will Ferrell.
Will Ferrell was shockingly good in this. I usually don't like him, but I was impressed.
love love love this movie
but does that really surprise any of you?
the imdb boards crack me up and piss me off at the same time. so many people refuse to watch it because she pretended to kill a cat. and it wasn't even graphic or anything (here's a secret... there was no cat in the bag. it was a book... the director told me himself!)
the discussion went from how could she kill an innocent cat to a discussion about wether cats were really innocent or not since they play with mice before they kill them.
... people watch movies with all kinds of unethical or morally questionable things written into the plot, though. I don't really get why the refusal to watch this particular movie is so rampant. I'm certainly not advocating the killing of innocent animals, but are these people refusing to watch all movies in which the characters aren't totally upstanding invididuals?

I have no respect for people who refuse to watch a movie where an animal is killed yet have no problem watching movies where humans are killed.
i really liked this. a sweet little movie and yeah, will was really good.
but then, i kill a cat every once in a while just on principle.
oh papa.

my mom was laughing at me one day beacuse i was watching "chapell's show" and i knew in one skit they were going to shoot a dog so i switched the channel qickly and ened up with a true crime murder story. i didn't mean to change it to that, but my mom thought it was funny that i started to watch the new channel and never switched back even though i had had every intention of switching back to chapell's show after a few minutes.
although i watch law and order on a regular basis, but on that one episode of house where he did the autopsy on the cat i had to look away.
