YES. I totally know what you mean, saveusmike.

I find it PARTICULARLY noticeable with TV broadcasts in standard def, and in my area we've only had CBS in HD for less than a year so my TONYs are SO blurry from the past 2 years in relation to this year's broadcast in HD.

I think some systems have better upconverting technology than others, as I have found that with Panasonic and Sony players you sometimes get the Blu-ray feel from some standard def discs (SWEENEY TODD and SOUTHLAND TALES are two that come to mind). Samsung, on the other hand, is a mess and I CANNOT tell you how many problems I have had with both their 5.1 system and their (now discountinued, I wonder why? NOT) 7.1 system. Samsung SUCKS. And to top it all off, the slowest and WORST disc-loading interface EVER. OH, and Samsung players don't allow picture-in-picture OR BdLive technology, just to top it all off.

I really didn't think Blu-Ray would be as impressive as it really, truly is. I have a 7.1 Panasonic surround system I use most now and I NEVER thought those rear speakers would get half the workout they get with 7.1 mixes like AUSTRALIA and REPO.

Speaking of which, AUSTRALIA on Blu-Ray is the most hi-tech Blu-Ray thus far, using 2 of the 8 layers Blu-Ray affords, and if just the difference between 1 and 2 layers could be THAT astounding, AUSTRALIA compared to other blu-rays like THE DARK KNIGHT, I can't even imagine what a disc fully utilizing Blu-Ray's technology would be capable of doing.

A WONDERFUL new format and beautiful packages like this OZ set make me proud to be a part of it. Go blu-ray!

Thanks for the responses.

For those who asked (or implied), I'm not a kid and I have zero interest in gaming, so there is no reason to get a PS3.

I am a 24-year-old graduate student paying New York City rent, living off loans and a $100/week internship stipend, so I will be asking my parents and other relatives for the Oz DVD and other things for Christmas. Trust me, I wish I could afford to buy it for myself.

My TV set is at least ten years old, so no Hi-Def, so I'll be holding off on the Blu-Ray player for now.

The original question still stands: which edition/release/store copy has the best exclusive content?

Have you read this thread?

I JUST repeated it for you in the post before yours.

IN SHORT: You want the 4 disc standard definition box set.

Yero---if you really want that (terrific) MGM documentary found on the Blu-ray release of Wizard of Oz, it's available separately in a 2-disc DVD release.

It will also be included with the forthcoming multi-disc Blu-ray release of "Gone With the Wind."

And yes, it's in standard-def (aka "regular DVD). It's also one of the best docs on a Hollywood studio that I've ever seen.
