WOLFCREEK: What 'true story' is it based on?

I've been seeing previews on tv for a new movie entitled 'wolfcreek' [i think] about a group of early-mid twenty-something's going on a road trip that somehow get lost and massacred.

The previews say based on a true story. Does anyone know the specifics of this 'true story'? Thanks!

It's an Australian thing...

It really is based on a whole lot of true stories all thrown together. Mainly Australian serial killer Ivan Milat who preyed on backpackers. If you do an Australian google search you will find HEAPS of info on the movie. It's pretty much a hit over here.

yeah i just saw an advert for it -- nice how they're releasing this on Christmas, eh? at first i just thought it was another Saw sequel...
