Waiting Lists- Any advice on how to get off them?

I was just accepted to Pace University but I was waitlisted for the musical theatre program.. and it seems like there's nothing to but.. wait. haha. But I was just wondering if anyone has any tips in terms of actually getting off the list and into the program. I mean, I know I just basically have to hope that people decide not to go there and spots open up, but I was thinking about sending a letter expressing my desire to be in the program. Has anyone done this? Has anyone had experience being waitlisted but eventually getting in?

Thanks for any help!

As you said, there's really nothing to do to get off a waitlist except wait. :) Once you've accepted a spot on a waitlist, the school knows that you're interested in attending. Telling them that again isn't going to really do any good. It will depend on who decides to accept their offer of admission and who doesn't. Some schools it will depend on 'type' as to whether or not you get off the waitlist. I don't know if that's the case at Pace. Did they tell you how many are on the waitlist and, in the past, how many actually get in off the list? Those are questions they should be able to answer for you. Good luck!

definitely send a letter re-iterating how much you want to go there, and especially offer them any updates as to shows that you have done, or other activities that didn't appear on your original application... don't go overboard, but a little reminder as to who you are goes a long way

thanks guys! i called and they won't tell you how far down on the waitlist you are, but i was told that last year 6 got off the waitlist.. and i asked if that was out of like a hundred or something.. bc i didn't know if that was a lot or a little.. and she said nooo.. they don't put too many people on the waitlist, so hopefully i'll get off it! thanks again!

I don't know how pace works, but the way it works where I go to school, they have a numbered list. When an accepted student declines, the just go down the list to the next person.

There really isnt much you can do but wait. I mean, if you really feel it necessary to send that letter, than go for it. But it probably will not do much good. My cousin was waitlisted for the Theatre program at DePaul(she got into the school fully though) and they basically led her on that she was the next person if and when they hear back. Well it got to be about a month before school starts, and then they told her that she didn't get in, so she's at Loyola-Chicago. So I suppose what I'm trying to say is don't hold your breath and definitely dont wait forever and maybe think about going to your 2nd choice. Hope that helps!
