"The Senate today voted 25-23 to approve a gay rights bill and ended the debate over legislation that emerged in Washington the same year singer Anita Bryant began her 'Save Our Children' crusade against such protections."

Sen. Bob Oke, R- Port Orchard, said his daughter is a lesbian. He said though the issue has been a long-standing point of conflict in his family but he held his position on the issue and voted against the bill.

"That's called tough love," Oke said.

"I believe homosexuality is morally wrong," Oke said. "The Bible is very clear on this."

The Bible is clear on this.

WHERE??? For God's sake, just show me where the word homosexual or gay is ANYWHERE in the bible and I will shut up.

Jerseygirl2, it IS in the Bible. It depends upon which translation you use. There's a translation that is called the New International Version (NIV) that has been in use in Fundamentalist Christian churches for a few decades now that is very popular. It claims to go back to the oldest texts possible for translation but uses the word homosexual everywhere it can.

JerseyGirl - it also states that those who modify their body (ie tatoos and body pircings anyone?) shall be put to death. And that you are to sell your daughters into slavery.

Each and every translation has historically added whatever tptb felt was needed to hold on to control of the people. King James was a known chauvenist and supposedly added the "Wives, submit to your husbands" bologna. The king that added the mention of men lying with men at Sodom and Gommorah was supposedly gay himself and trying to please the priests.

The NIV bible never says that homosexuality is wrong. It blasts male prostitutes and homosexual "offenders." It's referring to the idol worshippers and the married men who were using male slaves for sex. In fact many conservatives HATE the NIV for that very reason. And that one of the primary translators happened to be a big ole lez.

Did the word "homosexual" even exist before...oh, about 100, 150 years ago? I'm pretty sure homosexuals were called Uranians in the 19th century, and I have no idea how it worked before then.
