Helen Hunt jumping out of the car screaming "I RESPECT YOU!" is the funniest thing I've ever seen in movies in the longest time. DAMN - why haven't I ever seen this before?

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I disagree.

I'd say the entire ending sequence is the funniest thing in that movie.

Great score by Newman, though.

is this the one where Haley Joel Osment gets killed at school? and Kevin Spacey looks like Mel Gibson from The Man Without a Face?

Well that movie left me in a blubbering mess (because of personal reasons, not the movie). What makes that sad is that the writing sucks - especially the part of his death scene. Good overall concepts, but not executed too good.

I really liked the movie. The book is good, too. The ending is a bit different though.

SPOILER

I can't remember which is which (it's been a while since I've seen the movie or read the book). But it one of those, the boy doesn't realize the sucess of his 'pay it forward' plan before he dies, and in the other he does know. I think it makes it sadder that he never knew.

It was pretty good until the suck-ass ending.

The best thing to come out of this movie was the following scene from WILL AND GRACE:

Jack: Will, when you were fist coming out ofthe closet, I was there to help you out, to make you feel less awkward. Now it's your turn to do the same for Barry. That's what we do - we "gay it forward"!

Will: And how long have you been waiting to use that joke?

Jack: Pretty much ever since the movie came out.

The movie totally sells out the book. The book was wonderful - the movie was horrible in comparison.

And Kevin Spacey is COMPLETELY miscast, as one of the MAJOR plot points of the book is that the character is black.

ZONE, that was bad form. When a poster CLEARLY states he had never seen a movie before, why would you deliberately spoil it? You're just purposly trying to be rude. Not cool at all.

I don't think changing Mr. Simoettes race is a big deal, he still has his disfugurement...Weren't Arlene and Trevor some kind of Latino in the book as well? The movie is still one of my all time favorites.

Either way, I don't see how anyone can honestly not be moved by the ending...I was o nthe floor heaving and crying so hard I couldn't breathe for a good 10 minutes! It baffles me how others can see that and not at least shed a tear....

His race added a whole other dimension to the relationship, not to mention the tension around the baby possibly being his.

See, and I am the opposite. I don't see how anyone could be moved by that hokey and unearned "lets rip the tears from your eyes cuz you paid 10 bucks to see this piece of crap movie so if you don't cry you won't feel like you got your money's worth ending." But to each his own...
Horrible, horrible movie.

"I don't think changing Mr. Simoettes race is a big deal, he still has his disfugurement..."

It depends on why they changed the race of the character. I believe that in Hollywood, mixed race on-screen romance is avoided. I don't know why, but it seems like the big African American male actors don't get the love scenes their white counterparts do.

And I think it's an awful movie.
