so i was there over the weekend on a spur-of-the-moment trip. Bette wasn't playing, i've seen Elton already, and it came down to Craig Ferguson or Wayne Brady. i decided Brady might have more singing and dancing, and so toddled off to the Venetian.
Well, he's great. Terrific singer, funny of course, great onstage band, four "Fly Girl" type dancers (now that dates me), two male dancers, two amazing female back-up singers, and a sidekick. i had no idea just how well he could DANCE (including a great tap dance schtick where he really could tap).
Great intimate little showroom too, you felt like you were in old-time Las Vegas where you could really see the performer and not be overwhelmed by Cirque style visual design. It was a great hybrid of old-school/casual-fun persona....and everyone onstage seemed to genuinely be having fun, to the audience could too. Brady needs a B'way vehicle...GOLDEN BOY? HELLZAPOPPIN? too bad he dropped out of THE WIZ on the West Coast...maybe a new show for his particular talents. Or is it too soon for LITTLE ME again?
Anyway, my query is: for those of you who have seen it, how much is really improv and are there any audience plants? all the comedy stuff he improvised was terrific, but some of the "audience" recruits seemed pretty polished. My suspicions were:
a) heavyset white lady in outrageous hat
b) black woman who ended up dancing funk improv style
c) black gentleman in fedora who came off a bit like Morris Day
Theories?

Will: They don't give out awards for helping people be gay... unless you count the Tonys.
