Weight loss tips for those who are limited in time?

Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I do not have time to go to the gym. If I did sit-ups every night before bed and watch what I ate, would that work?

No! Sit-ups do no good unless you have no more than 13% body fat(my estimate)--they won't be seen. Watching your diet is only half the program. Walk/bike to work (or part of the way) and anywhere else you can think of, take the stairs everyday to your office, jump on your desk midday and start dancing (well, i do that), etc.

drink lots of water and MOVE!!! walk whenever you can... don't take the elevator or escalator if you don't have to... take stairs two at a time... eat more fruit and vegetables...

I second the water. I lost a lot of weight over the summer when I drank all 8 glasses of water a day.

Lots and lots of water and tons of walking! at lease 2 -3 miles a day. Take the stairs, park far away. Go on out for a stroll after lunch and dinner.

I definitely second, third and fourth the water and walking. I've lost a LOT of weight in the almost 5 years since high school, but when I started my new job, I lost a LOT more. I've been there about 3 months now, but in the first 3 weeks I had a rapid weight loss from all the walking. Of course, I'm now working in Manhattan and anything is a vast improvement from the year I spent unemployed (on and off), sitting on my ass watching Jerry Springer and eating. lol

I had a friend who was on vacation when I started my new job.... I ran into him 3 weeks later when he came back to work and he couldn't stop talking about how much weight I'd lost from the amount of walking I'm doing now. I'd say I walk a good 90 some odd blocks a day.

Granted, you don't need to walk THAT much (and quite frankly your feet will thank you if you dont) but definitely try to work an evening hour-long walk into your daily routine. If you can walk more than that, FABULOUS. If not, that's at least a start and you will see results. There is no healthy quick fix for weight loss. Believe me when I say this... this is coming from someone who used to weigh 285lbs.... and now only weighs 128lbs.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I wish I lived in the city, because then I could walk everywhere...and I would love that! I think I am going to start walking my dog every evening. How does that sound? I will also limit pop...I already drink a lot of water.

Water and movement are key.

If we're talking super short-term (as I'm not a devotee of this in general) cut your carbs A LOT. Like, proteins and veggies. And if you do have carbs, make them very high fiber, high bulk, whole grain. No sugar, no white flour. I'm NOT an advocate of anything crash-diety, but it sounds like you have an event you're working towards, so just try to flush your system, think of your food as high quality fuel, and stay hydrated.

p.s....MANY congrats CJR! I gained 25 pounds in my first two years out of college, mostly just by living in LA and sitting on my as$ and driving everywhere. Seven years later and in my fourth year in the city, I am in some of the best shape of my life, and it's almost all due to walking!

Um, I live in CT and for the most part I walk everywhere here.... just because you don't live in NYC doesn't mean you can't try to walk to the store instead of driving or taking the bus. lol
