Welcome to Gay Sydney

Two stories to warm the heart or chill the blood:

The gay mums who sparked a parliamentary debate by appearing on PLAY SCHOOL last year have been announced as "chiefs-of-parade" for Saturday night's Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade. Vicki Harding, her partner Jackie and their eight year old daughter Brenna will travel in the open-top car preceding the first float. "Brenna is beside herself", said Harding. "Very, very excited. We haven't told her she's up the front or I don't think we'll ever hear the end of it. She's already said,'That car we're going in, is it a limousine?'" Vicki and Jackie--who also produce children's books such as THE RAINBOW CUBBYHOUSE featuring gay and lesbian characters--are no Mardi Gras virgins.
"I marched when I was pregnant with Brenna nine years ago", Harding says. "She knows about Mardi Gras, which she pronounces Mardi Grass."

The leader of the Christian Democrats, the Reverend Fred Nile, knows why the Australian version of QUEER EYE FOR THE STRAIGHT GUY was axed after only three weeks. "It's a reflection of the will of God. The show sets out to make the heterosexual male look stupid." Reverend Nile went on to say that he was sick of seeing homosexuals on "amost every television show" and that we should learn from the US's mistakes. "The homosexual lobby is so powerful in America now, they now have the same influence as the Negroes", he said.

re: Welcome to Gay Sydney

Wow. Sad, but hilarious.
Somehow I didn't think that you Aussies had religious politicos. You guys seemed so open-minded minded when I was down there. re: Welcome to Gay Sydney
His last sentence just about had me on the floor laughing.
Word. Word, indeed.

You have no idea BB.

The amount of controversies that Australia has due to homosexuality is laughable.

Though I do think that is is pretty funny that Melbourne and Sydney are currently fighting for the title of "Pink City" as in most gay friendly. Melbourne's mayor came out and said it was his desire for Melbourne to be the most gay friendly city in Australia, and Sydney went crazy!

I am reminded of the Eddie Murphy skit when he was made up to look like a white man.
"Silly negroes!"
Of course, now we can just change that to "silly homos!"
That Reverend Nile guy sounds about as colorful as Falwell. Does he also blame the tsunami on the will of God cleansing the heathen Buddhists and Taoists and Hinduists from the planet?

re: Welcome to Gay Sydney

I've heard the Christians spout that one actually...

He disowned his sister because after years of being a Catholic nun she came out as a lesbian.

Wildcat...we should dig up some of the glorious things that Rev Nile says...

And my parents vote for him!!!

The Christian Democrats are by far Australia's most coherent party!
