Were you alive in the 70s and did you watch movies/television?

I was watching a historical movie from the late 70s/early 80s this weekend. As always, the quetion that has been plaguing me since childhood reared its ugly head . . .

Why didn't anyone say, "This is 1870, and boys didn't have such long, pretty hair perfectly combed and ready for a rock band?"

I've always wondered this. Granted, every historical movie has styles that gets filtered through modern times, but why was everything in the 70s so . . . way out of style for the historical films that were made?

look at the historical costume dramas from the 40s. the womens figures are enhanced with 40s brassieres, where in reality they would have been flattened and pushed out the top with hard surfaces prior to the invention of elastic.
