West Side Story auditions

Hey Guys! I need help, I am auditioning for West Side Story and I would really like to get Tony...anyone have audition suggestions? The website says to audition with something like WSS and we can sing from it as a last resort, but they prefer not. I am a pretty high tenor and can belt to a c or d above middle c pretty easily.

thanks!

Finishing the Hat (Sunday/Park/George) or any Mandy Patinkin aria.

Just make sure that if you do a Sondheim song to show up with your own accompanist. His songs are notoriously difficult to sight read.

If you can manage, try to find something from another Bernstein show - like On The Town, Wonderful Town, Candide, etc.

If you choose a Sondheim piece, either practice it acapella or take a backing track with you just in case the accompanist messes up (unfortunately, this does happen). That being said, I think you could probably manage "Johanna" from Sweeney Todd, it has a lovely melody, although the lyrics may come across as a bit stalker-ish, it's still a nice song nonetheless.

Whatever you do, don't sing "The Internet is for porn."

I just went to a WSS aud a few days ago and heard someone sing this. Not kidding.
