Okay, this is one of those things that REALLY bugs me. It's like calling a cast recording a soundtrack.

There is only one Livestrong bracelet and that's the Lance Armstrong one. All the others are immitation bracelets and unless the money is actually going to charity (as with the livestrong bracelets) it annoys me to see people profiting from their sale.

all of the ones I have are benefitting either a charity or a group or non-profit organization... it's just a fun way to support a cause.
even the ones that the girl from my school's family made are going to a scholarship foundation in her name for students majoring in graphics arts.

I do know what you mean though, because I got upset when I saw some guy at the mall selling imitation LiveStrong bracelets in all different colors for $2. It's not right, especially since they didn't tell people that they were fake and that the money wasn't going to a charity.

I have Live-strong and a Tsunami relief. Livestrongs were a HUGE fad, and although everyone at my school had one, a small number actually knew what they supported.

Yeah, I think the ones that you pick up at the little kiosks at the mall that you KNOW aren't going to charity are pretty ridiculous. So I guess I'm a hypocrite, because I have a Red Sox Nation one that I picked up on eBay last fall. I know the money doesn't go to charity, but I couldn't resist! Pity they didn't make a Red Sox one that went to The Jimmy Fund or something.

I also picked up a white ONE campaign bracelet at the U2 concert I went to a week or so ago.

That's it.

I wore one before they were "cool"
I practiclly grew up in my dad's old bike shop, and became a huge Lance Armstrong fan at a young age, so I had one as soon as they started making them.
I used to get pissed when people wear them because they think they're cool and don't realize what they were for, but then I realized that as long as they bought one, the money was still going ot the same place no matter if they knew about the charity or not.

EDIT: Yeah LOL I have the Red Sox one even though it's not going to a charity, but at least the store where I bought it didn't claim it was.

There's an article about the "wrist band" charity bands in the new DETAILS magazine. Basically stating how they've become cheap accessories and how the initial message has gotten lost in the marketing and self-righteousness of them.
It's actually an interesting article and the last paragraph, which is true of the doctors at the hospital I am at.
"Hospitals have started prohibiting staff from wearing the yellow bands b/c people are getting confused. yellow medical bracelets on a patient mean "do not resusciate"

around here, bright orange means do not resusitate. yellow means allergies.
that's interesting though. i can see why they wouldn't want people who work in a hospital to confuse a livestrong bracelet with a DNR one.

EDIT: is the article available online?

So, a good number of people who wear them don't know nor care what they mean, it's just a "fashion trend"? That is ironic, considering how ugly the things are.

I have a regular one, tis obnoxiously bright yellow, lol, but it's for a good cause, eh? I also have cheap ones from Hot Topic that say Music=Life and Rock the Arts which I wear daily.

A most ingenious paradox.

I don't wear them. They've become a fashion statement, and it's disgusting. It's like wearing an AIDS bracelet because you like the pretty ribbon.
