What Happened to Kenny?

I used to watch South Park faithfully but, until the past two weeks haven't had a chance to see it in a long time. Kenny has been replaced with Butters. Where is Kenny? Did they finally kill him for good?

A while back they did finally kill Kenny.
One of the best episodes in my estimation was the VH1 "Behind the Music"-esque casting call for some character to replace Kenny in the group... including Towlie, Timmy, and Jimmy. But Butters won.
