Posted: 11/28/05 at 7:54pmDo NOT take it upon yourself to inform them of the problem. That's the DIRECTOR'S job.

Posted: 11/28/05 at 8:12pmWhat if the director is bugging them about this every day and yet they still don't seem to get it through their head that they do not know their lines yet?

Posted: 11/28/05 at 8:32pmThe show I'm in right now has its first performance this Friday. The lead still doesn't know all his lines.

Protect yourself if you have any scenes with them. Have plenty of "cover lines" on the tip of you tongue so that your scene can progress forward without becoming a absolute trainwreck.
I once played Mortimer opposite two very sweet little old ladies, one of which never got her lines consistently. You have to become a master at saving youself and your castmates.

Posted: 11/29/05 at 10:54amDuring rehearsals for "Charley's Aunt," we were...well, not exactly on top of learning our lines. So one day, the director got so mad that he threw a cane at us. We didn't have many memorization problems after that.

Posted: 11/29/05 at 10:59amIn a high school production of CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF that I was in, the girl playing Maggie didn't learn her lines at all. On opening night, our drama teacher sat in the front row of the theatre and fed her the dialogue throughout the performance. It was embarrassing.

Posted: 11/29/05 at 12:37pmThis isn't happening currently but it usually does happen. I'd like everyone to be giving the best performance that they possibly can give because it's more interesting when you see an ensemble that is filled with equally talented people than seeing an ensemble with one or two stand-outs.

Posted: 11/29/05 at 12:39pmThere's nothing you can do. Just don't say anything to the "actor" and let the train wreck continue.
