I grew up in a college town and there was children's theater that I remember going to. My parents also took us into Chicago for lots of shows -- "Annie", "A Chorus Line", "The Music Man" with Tony Randall, etc. It always makes me laugh that I couldn't see "Grease" in the movie theater because of the language and sexual suggestiveness, but my parents had no qualms about taking me to see "A Chorus Line". It's theater, so it's okay...
My first official New York Broadway experience was , I'm sad to say, "Cats". I remeber thinking, huh -- I don't get it?
first b-way show: Beauty and the Beast... many a moon ago.
i didn't become hooked until about two years ago, though
My Junior High School history class went to see "1776", and I've been hooked ever since.

My first Broadway show (and my first real theatre experience that I can remember) was CATS. I don't remember much about it. I remember staring at the bathtub hanging in the upper left corner and wondering if it had any significance. It didn't. I also remember that someone proposed to someone else onstage during intermission. Oh! And when the boat came out of the wall. That was cool.
Is it werid that I don't have a specific first memory of theatre? I honestly don't remember the first time I saw a show, it just seems like i've ALWAYS been a theatre-geek! =)But the first show I actually saw in NYC was RENT 3 years ago.
