Does anyone have a cat that fetches? My cat will bring us his toy when he wants to play but won't "fetch." I am going to try this technique to see if we can teach him.

I had a friend whose cat LOVED to fetch! He loved it when you'd throw the top from a Pringles can like a frisbee and he'd run it down and bring it back. He would also dig a coin out of his owners change jar and bring it over and drop it at his feet when he wanted to fetch- he'd fetch a nickle or quarter. During one night, the cat must have brought him $1 in change before he finally got out the "Frisbee" and played with him.

Anybody have a fetching cat?

My cats dont fetch, but I did have a cat who loved to bring presents, usually either water bugs or socks. The socks were a riot when she was a kitten.

Cute. :) None of my cats fetch either. Actually, none of them are very playful.

When a cat brings you stuff it's usually an expression of belonging and affection- if it "Kills" a mouse, it brings it back to you because you give it food, now that it's caught something it wants to share it with you. My cat "Kills" his toy mice and brings them to me all the time- and I always pretend to eat them. There have been mornings when I wake up to 5-6 toy mice all over the bed and floor.

That's all well and good until the fall when the mice come in the house and your cat likes to "play" with them awhile before bringing them to your chest while you watch tv...it's tought to get blood out of a tshirt.

When I lived in my old apartment my cat would fetch her feather-on-a-stick toy all the time. Now I throw it, she chases it and then sits there and meows at me. Sometimes I wake up in the morning and she's dragged it into the bed. She won't fetch anymore, though. She's also a pretty good mouser. Let me tell you, you haven't lived until your cat has woken you up in the middle of the night and placed a dead mouse on the pillow next to you.

Haha...sort of like she's in a kitty mob and instead of waking up with a horse head in bed with you, you wake up with a dead mouse in bed.

My cat would fetch when he was little and he'll do it a little bit now, but he has a very short attention span. He gets bored after one or two times. You'll throw it and he'll just walk off in the other direction.

And he's just started with the gutting mice and leaving them for my mom. I'm glad I haven't been around when he's done that.

My current cat hasn't killed any actual mice but the previous cat woke me up once with a dead critter she caught.

katygrace, my cat does the exact same thing! She has 2 "stick" toys, one with feathers on the end and one with dangly fleece "ropes" and baubles on the end. If I'm in our living room she will drag them from my bedroom, meowing through her teeth so that someone will play with her. It's cute! I wonder if I could teach her to fetch...she's a very playful/social cat, so maybe.
