I'm auditioning for a play called Ananse the Spiderman at Dallas Children's Theatre and part of the audition is singing a folk song acapella. That's good since finding the music could be hard. Anyways, what are some good recommendations? Shenandoah was something that I thought of instantly.

think Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Peter-Paul and Mary...depending on how young you are, you might ask your grandparents.

Trailer for Sale Or Rent by Roger Miller
Alice's Restaurant by Arlo Guthrie - although I have a strong feeling they won't wait for you to finish
That Roger Miller song is actually called "King of the Road."
Hmmm....many of the songs Peter, Paul, & Mary recorded are considered folk songs:

I've heard Streets of London done in the folk song category of a local music festival last year. It's so pretty.

I know Rath - sadly - I have those songs on my Ipod, and I think that might actually be an oxymoron!
Anything from "A Mighty Wind"
Constant Sorrow is a good one..as well as Cruel War. Both versions I'm thinking of are from Peter, Paul and Mary as well.
Thanks! I like "Puff the Magic Dragon" and "Where Have All the Flowers Gone"
