re: What did you learn today?

insomniak - I am so glad you discovered that mac and cheese info! If you need anymore m&c tips I'm the girl to ask! Try it cold. I really like that one!

anyway, I learned a LOT today. I saw Golda's Balcony and it was just filled with so much history about the jewish people. I also learned that in Catholic school they don't teach you anything about the jews and what they've had to endure, aside from the holocaust

I learned driving is the ultimate escape from your parents!

and I'm still stuck on the topic of a gay friend that keeps telling you about the hot dream he had about you and groping you a lot... now I don't know what he wants from me.

re: What did you learn today?

Today I learned... That as humans we tend to look at the negative all the time. I mean granted some parts of our lives aren't perfect but the others that are make up for it. So what if you don't have someone to hold you, Because if you can make someone feel better, or smile then that makes a person feel 110% better!

re: What did you learn today?

I learned that I am addicted to eBay and vintage playbills...I can't live in NYC this year, but I'm spending anyway. I mean, do I really need all of the playbills?

I also learned that I love Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers...I finally watched my first movie with them, The Barkleys of Broadway.

Oh shira467, you need to go back to black and white!
Fred and Ginger have an amazing series of films made at RKO or Radio Pictures.
Top Hat, Flying Down to Rio, The Gay Divorcee, Swing Time are amazing Fred and Ginger movies. I adore them.
If you liked The Barkleys of Broadway, you'll love the black and whites.

I re-learned that there's no point in calculating the risks and possible negatives with love, that you just have to take them.

Glebb/Shira - Another great Fred/Ginger is Follow the Fleet. With cameo appearances by Lucille Ball among others (she's the tall blonde in one of the dressing room scenes).

Also try checking out some Fred/Rita Hayworth movies - such as You'll Never Get Rich. Good, good stuff. She's a fantastic dancer.

re: What did you learn today?

Oh, lord, Shira, I learned that when I was four years old! re: What did you learn today?

I have 46 Ginger Rogers movies (she made 72 total), all ten with Fred included.

My two favorites are Swingtime and Barkley's of Broadway (...you know Judy Garland was originally supposed to play Dinah Barkley, right?).

Follow the Fleet is also a good one... I love Roberta if ONLY for Ginger's polish accent. The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle is VERY different from the rest... worth watching if only for that. Carefree has Ginger and Fred's first onscreen kiss (because Phyllis Astaire would never let Fred kiss Ginger...). That was their ninth movie together. They smooch a lot in Barkley's of Broadway. I just adore their chemistry in that one... it seems much less forced... though they always had great chemistry, esp. when dancing. Never believed them as the 'romantic' leads, though... which is why I think I like Barkley's best... because they're not playing dough-eyed young lovers.

Awww...nostalgia anyone?

re: What did you learn today?

I learned that I should keep my mouth shut before I come on this board and vent about a director of a show that I think is an idiot b/c he didn't give me a part...

He just called like 3 min and asked if I wanted to cover/understudy the role of Squeaky Fromme. So I should wait before I say bad stuff about people!
