Posted: 9/16/08 at 2:43amHe is offering a 3-day musical theatre audition workshop in Seattle and I was thinking about signing up. But before I put any money down (which I desperately need) I was wondering if you guys knew anything about him. And if so, good or bad? Thanks a bunch.

Hi - regarding your inquiry on VP Boyle, I think I am uniquely qualified to give you info. I was an Actress in Seattle for many years, working at ACT, Intiman, The Group, and in the original cast of Angry Housewives, Seattle's longest running show. I then spent 20 years as a working actor in LA, and have now relocated to New York. I have studied with VP and he is the real deal - not just a performer, but also he has worked as a casting director at The Broadway level. Do you want to know what it takes to audition at the Broadway level - study with VP. He is no-nonsense, but loads of fun, very kind and very knowledgable. Plus, he personally knows all the casting people in New York. You won't be wasting your money. Have fun!

He has done everything from being an amazing actor and singer to direct/cast/assist big casting directors/coach/write amazing books on the audition scene/ write musicals as well as teach one of the BEST classes in NYC! If you can work with him... do it. You wont be sorry. He is also the #1 authority on the pop/rock scene in musical theatre and has things to offer that NO ONE ELSE does.

Ditto on everything good about this guy. He changed my career and has helped more Broadway pros that I can count. I was lucky enough to read a copy of his new book, AUDITION FREEDOM, before it got published and it's a godsend. Check it out because it is EXACTLY the way he talks and teaches in person. www.maxtheatrix.com
Hope that helps!
PS. He knows everyone in the Broadway casting world. I've seen him text his peeps in the middle of a class and get people appointments that were closed.

Posted: 9/22/08 at 10:51amI have just taken class with VP and highly recommend it. He gave me solid, actionable ideas to improve my auditions, and I watched him do the same for everyone else in the room. I can't say enough good things about the experience.

VP is nothing short of amazing. Having worked EXTENSIVELY in both performing and casting, he has a unique industry perspective to go along with his freakishly brilliant talent to get people to levels they have never reached. I am in his class right now and hating that tomorrow is the last session. In fact, I try to stay in his class as much as possible whether I am working or not. Whenever I am in town, it is my top priority because it's like musical theatre gym: it keeps your book in shape. His class is for you only if you want to be better than you thought you could be, are willing to be supportive of your fellow classmates' growth in their work and learn from them as well, and would like to work with someone who is, above all else, just "good people".
As someone lucky enough to call VP my friend, I say to Mr. "from what I understand...", clearly you don't understand. Perhaps you did a quick web search? You could Google me (Anette Michelle Sanders, feel free), and you'd know I'm an actor, but you wouldn't find out anything about the kind of person I am, or get any sort of glimpse into what else I do or have done. For example, I coached competitive speech and debate on the national level, and all my clients won, but that doesn't show up in reviews or feature articles. Also, I have an extensive background in production on the corporate level; no evidence on the internet. I'm passionate about making this point because the first response to your query is so very dismissive and snarky. It would be a shame for you to miss out on a fantastic experience because someone (who seems to think they're informed) didn't know what they were talking about.
In the two years I've lived in NY and been working with VP, my callback rate has gone to about 95% and I feel great when I walk out of an audition room. He has helped me get to this place more than my degree in acting, more than years of training, more than anything on my resume, of which I'm pretty proud. I hope you'll treat yourself to a rare and wonderful experience.

Posted: 9/22/08 at 11:28pmVery strange that you're in NY and only know VP as an actor. Yes, he's an accomplished actor/singer, but he's just started performing again in the past few months after many years of casting and building an enormous class following. I was referred to him when I was still in LA, and when I got to NY, by practically every actor I knew who'd been in a Broadway show. If no one recommended his class to you, you're not getting good information.

Posted: 9/22/08 at 11:43pmThat would be because in order to respond to this message, many of us who do not use this site on a regular basis, but heard about had to register. I doubt that in our haste to lend our support to VP and his class, many of us paused to jot down our favorite Broadway shows. The profile is defaulted to "male", so if people skip it, that's what you're seeing.

Posted: 9/23/08 at 1:53amYes, four new posters in 20 minutes. Probably more soon. There's a very large network of VP alums. We're in touch. Someone came across this and let us know about it. A few of us responded. That's all.

Hi Everyone!
For the record, I AM VP BOYLE.
Wowzers. A fascinating first experience on Broadway.com's message boards. I got three text messages in the last hour!
First off, thanks to my fleet of clients/friends/fans...you guys rock. I can tell about half of you from your screen name and you guys are the best. Hilarious. Who knew I could ever be controversial?
To GERTIECUMMINGS...I hope I get to meet you in Seattle. I'm very much looking forward to teaching that workshop and meeting the West Coast folks in Seattle. I've got five other regiional workshops across the country in the works and am looking forward to the travel!
I'm unclear as to why I'm a topic on the FLORIDA message board, but hey, it's a global community! That interests me since I remember the first computer with green DOS programming and I had the original KONG game.
I wish all of you the best in your theatrical endeavors and choose to invite you to remember we're all in this together!
I love theatre, I love theatre people and I REALLY love what we are able to create when it comes to living, breathing experiences with live audiences. I'm not so sure I'm a fan of message boards, but if you are passionate about theatre in any shape or form, I support you.
Cheers!
VP Boyle
