I don't understand this sudden craze to develop shows that can't possibly go one for more than a season.
Exactly. It's the same reason I don't follow Lost anymore. The producers said they could see it going for another 9 years. Maybe they could, but their audience won't. Why keep watching a show when you know nothing substantial will be answered until the ratings fall and the end is near?
