I don't understand this. The TV to DVD genre is taking a giant leap backwards by releasing television shows in volumes as opposed to complete season sets.
The first studio to do this, to my knowledge anyway was 20th Century-Fox Video. Several of their titles (Lost in Space, Time Tunnel and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea) were released this way.
Now it seems Paramount/CBS Video is doing the same thing as they are releasing Love American Style, The Mod Squad and The Love Boat in this fashion.
I prefer my seasons in complete boxed sets. It makes very little sense to me to release these shows as Season One, Volume One. That means if a show ran five seasons instead of having just fve boxed sets of the show you would have 10! That's alot of shelf space! Besides, I hate the idea of waiting 6 months to purchase the second half of a television season.
End of rant.
It's greed, pure and simple. They make more money this way.
TV is still selling very well on DVD, unlike the "really truly special edition - 3rd time releases" of your favorite movies.
So, Marketing decides to milk it. Just like the infomercial ads that require "two easy payments" to get one product.
