This winter I will be playing Eva in an all African-American company of the hit musical 'Evita'.
Who is your favorite Evita? I love the way Melba Moore sings "Buenos Aires"
My favorite Evita is her real mummy, what a history:
In 1955, Evita's mummy disappeared, stolen by the military after they had deposed Juan Peron. It was carried to Germany and then Italy, where it was interred for 16 years under another name. After negotiations, it was finally returned to her husband in Spain.
Evita's long legacy came to an end when Juan Peron died in Argentina in 1974. Her coffin was brought from Spain and lay in state next to that of the one she had said she would die for.
At the Duarte family crypt in the Recoleta Cemetery, admirers still leave flowers and a continual guard is kept to prevent vandalism.
But if I have to chose one alive I chose Patty Lupone.
Star Jones - her performance of Don't Cry For Me, Gastric Bypass is legendary.
My favorite Evita is Patty Lupone.

Wouldnt that be changing history? I know producers take artistic license sometimes but changing a real person's race?
The Globe in London has done all female performances of Shakespeare works. I think that changing a character's race is okay.
Yes, this promises to be quite a production!

I think that changing a made up character's race is ok but when the character was a real person, like Eva Peron, its wrong to change their race.
That's a good point. I still think that an all-black production will be interesting.
By the way, since when is Madonna latina?
Yes we know what the real Eva looked like BUT in the sense that opera or ballet are(or should )be colour blind I think we can allow for that old artistic licence/willing suspesion of disbelief thing in a musical. Itn not like u are talking about say a black Stanley Kowalski ( yes I KNOW it almost happened in Germany)
When can we order our tickets mama sam??
A black Stanley Kowalski did happen. Dance Theatre of Harlem did an all black ballet of Streetcar. It was interesting.
It's a toss up for me between Toni Braxton and Whitney Houston. They both brought something fresh and new to the role of Eva. But Hammer's Che was out of this world.
Hammer as Che? Shut it up!

You know that is one thing Evita is missing...MC hammer pants.
See, I always knew there was some kind of fighting going on in Argentina during that time period, but it wasn't until I saw Hammer in the role that I realized it was an East Side/West Side war. It all makes sense to me now.
CLEAN UP ON AISLE 11!!!
