What should I do while in Vancouver, Canada?

I appreciate the answers to my first post. I have another question- while in Washington, we'll be going to Vancouver, Canada. Any suggestions of things we should do there? (attractions, restaurants, night clubs, arts & entertainment, etc)

Thanks, again!

This was the original post:
I have a couple questions. I'd rather hear from people who have actually used these sites rather than the FAQs and whatnot.

First of all, and this may be stupid (sorry if it is). My father bought a ticket for me for the Les Mis revival in Feburary. He already got it in the mail and it has his name printed on the actual ticket. I've never seen the customer's name printed on a show ticket before. I've never known a theatre to match IDs to tickets either, but there's a first time for everything. When we ordered the ticket it never asked the name of the person actually seeing the show. So I don't THINK it should matter, but I thought I'd ask your opinion.

Secondly- has anyone used priceline.com? I'm flying to Washington state in September and all the travel sites are more expensive then I was expecting. Priceline has a name your own price thing and it seems a little too good to be true. If any of you have used it- what probems, if any, did you run into? Would you reccommend it?

Thanks for your help (in advance).

you MUST be flexible. Where are you flying from? If from back east, they could route you in a weird way. If you are flexible, could be a good deal.
If from a region to the same region should not be a problem.

When I used it to go back East, the suckers put me on a redeye....and Daddy don't do no redeyes......

Have you tried http://www.kayak.com or
http://www.sidestep.com

Does Southwest fly between the two cities?

I would try those before Priceline

how many tickets did you order? becuase I work at a ticketing service, and we print out the customers name on a ticket, but it acts as thier reciept. so for example, if two people order, they are getting three actual tickets, but the one with your name on it is a reciept.

The name of the person who ordered the tickets is always on Telecharge tickets. No one is going to check your id when you go to the show.

thanks for the quick replies.

yeah, I know what you're talking about, pippin. I've seen that with ticketmaster. But this isn't the receipt, it's the actual ticket.

I've never ordered from telecharge, so I didn't know. Thanks, Yoda.

Elphaba- I'm flying from KY to Tacoma, WA. And this trip does allow for flexibility. (as in, I have no official plans, just visiting. So I can leave/come back any time that week) And I hadn't heard of those two sites. I'll check those now. Thanks!

The name on the ticket is also a safeguard in case of duplicate tickets---earliest order wins, or a stolen ticket becomes useless. You will not be asked to show id unless you cause a problem!

You should edit the title in your first post to let people know you're looking for Canada info, too.

The name is printed on the tickets because if you had picked them up at the box office, rather than gotten them in the mail, you *would* have to present the credit card, and the person at the box office would need to see the last name on the ticket to see if they match up.

My trips to Vancouver usually entail shopping on Robson Street. Also, Granville Island, though it can be quite crowded during tourist season. A visit to Grouse Mountain is also recommended.

Are you visiting Seattle too?

The thing I remember most about my trip to Vancouver was when we spent the day in Victoria, which is just a ferry ride away. The harbour was beautiful, and had lots of little artists around selling and entertaining.

Best thing to do if you're in Canada is to make a run for the border. Only joking.

our sky-blue slates are steaming in the sun,
our yachts tinkling and dancing in the bay

shining windows, a future forbidden to no one.

If you want to have high tea at the Empress, you'll have to take the ferry over to Victoria on Vancouver Island, a little distance from Vancouver. It's overpriced, I'd just walk though the Hotel itself and look at the dining rooms like the Bengal Room. Walking around the little town of Victoria is charming, slightly touristy, eat at the wharfy restaurants instead. They have tea houses and also great bakeries there. A Chinatown, too. You can go on this little cute tiny oval glassed ferries abount the harbor for a fun little ride. See the legislature building and the art museum. Elizabeth (or Victoria?) Park is there to stroll, and there are exceptional Gardens there like the one at Royal Road College, which is just as wonderful as the more touristy Busch Gardens and there is one at the Governor's house/mansion which is terrific, too.

Back to Vancouver itself. If you are a member of a private club, you will find they have a lot of reciprocal clubs (mine had four!) there. My favorite was the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club where I was eating a roast rack of lamb dinner overlooking the harbor at sunset for a whopping $12 U.S., though all of them had their charm. Remember you have to dress up or you may not get in the door, no jeans. (Victoria has The Union Club, great food & right in town).

I enjoyed seeing the GIGANTIC cruise ships that make the Titanic seem like a tinker toy at their docks in the harbor. They also have a great theatre show that is maybe a little over an hour about the history of Vancouver, its Indians and immigrants which I really enjoyed in a section of town that may be referred to as Old Town, I can't remember. You can buy tickets to see it at the Visitor Information center in town and it is worth the money. In the summer, they also put on Shakespeare in the Park.

And, the big park on an island there is also called Queen Elizabeth Park (everything is either named Victoria or Elizabeth, you get used to it), which also has a huge hill you drive up and a charming place to eat called Seasons, like a hunting lodge, perched to have a smashing view of the Twin Lions (by their shapes) mountains. Their telephone is (604)874-8008, and their email is info@vancouverdine.com as I saved their card I liked the place so much.

I had one of the best vacations in my life at Vancouver and Victoria, and I hope you do as well.
