I forgot how bizzaro that version was.
I love how that song turns into a Japanese Anime of sorts.
I always loved Lee Remick- she was sooooo beautiful. I never knew she could sing. What a way to hide the fact that she can't dance- it looked like Joe was having an LSD trip! Thanks for the clip. My daughter is in an all-high school production of Damn Yankees this summer- opens next weekend!

So weird!
But Lee looks as if she might have been a fine dancer.
She definitely moves very well and has pleasing line.
Looks like there's no space.
Lee Remick as Cousin Serena as Lola.
LOL!
Random thoughts...
Choreography by Terry Gilliam?
I didn't realize Damn Yankees was a comic book.
The "dance solo" looks like Neely O'Hara's trippy medley in Valley of the Dolls... also done in 1967!
Alternate titles: "It's a Bird It's a Plane, It's Lola!" "You're a Good Man, Joe Hardy!"
Terry Gilliam? From Monty Python?
Speaking of Joe Hardy, who the h*ll is that adorable actor?
Some guy named Jerry Lanning.

Jerry Lanning was the original Older Patrick in "Mame" opposite Angela and Bea.
He was also Freddy Eynsford-Hill in the 1976 Revival of "My Fair Lady" and Rev. John Witherspoon in the 1997 Revival of "1776"
He also used to play in a soap opera called Texas- a spinoff from Another World that also starred Daniel Davis from The Nanny. I remember seeing him in an old Dick VanDyke show as well. (I believe he's the one that did "The Twizzle"- it was a dance kinda like the twister)

I'm only familiar with Lee Remick's dramatic roles like in Days of Wine and Roses and A Delicate Balance. Quite a good actress. I'd never seen this before and it shows she could also handle comedy well. It's dated, but interesting. I see nothing wrong with her dancing here, It looks like it was intentionally done like that for a comic effect. Her IMDB bio implies that she started out studying dance.
I adore Lee Remick. Actually saw her live in Wait Until Dark, and Audrey Hepburn pales by comparison. However, SOMEBODY thought she couldn't dance. Otherwise, what's the excuse for that?

I find that Audrey Hepburn generally pales in comparison with just about any talented actress.

Jerry Lanning is the son of singer Roberta Sherwood. What is so ironic about this version of DAMNED YANKEES is that Lanning was romatically involved with Gwen Verdon at the tiime is was done. He later did a Music Fair tour of the show opposite Verdon and Ray Walston.
Yeah, there's so much going on in that number that all you can really focus on is what a little WASP hottie Jerry Lanning was...

now i am convinced that everyone was on either acid or lsd in the late '60s. it seems like everything had to simulate a drug trip back in those days even something as conventional as "damn yankees".
that was beyond awful.

When I saw this as a kid, the most memorable thing about it was that Meg was played by Fran Allison of Kukla, Fran and Ollie.
I only knew Phil Silvers as the guy who often played a con man on The Beverly Hillbillies.
Choreography by Terry Gilliam? Perfect best12bars!
50 years later - Gwen's dancing of this number is seared in our memories for good reason.
I think this version will also stick around for a good long time but for other reasons.

I saw a terrific college production in 1969 - Lola in mini-skirt and go-go boots, Applegate in bellbottoms and Nehru shirt. He had a psychedelic pad with blacklight posters.
Lord, Jon. Did they change the title to "Damn Hippies?"
