The only person I know who blocks her number is my mother. I don't know what kind of double life she's leading that she needs to do that, and I most certainly am not going to ask.

Geez Rodney I wasn't aware we were obligated to read and comment on everyone's signature as soon as a new one was posted. Will try to do better next time.

Speaking of clever responses to telemarketers (as seen on Seinfeld) I have a friend who has a voicemail message that tells them to leave their number and he will call them back around 2:00 a.m. their time.

The calls I hate worse than any others are the recorded messages that start after you pick up the phone and say hello about 4 times...only to hear a recorded voice telling you to stay on the line. Yeah, right.

On the rare occasion that someone slips through the do not call net and I see 'unknown caller' or 'private number' on my caller ID I just ignore it and they usually hang up when they hear MY pre recorded message. I HATE TELEMARKETERS (nothing personal to the people who make their living that way but I've never understood how it can be fruitful to call people and expect them to buy something from you when they didn't ask you to contact them in the first place. Weird.

SamIAm, telemarketing wouldn't be such a popular marketing tool if it wasn't profitable. Only a very small percentage of people called ever buy anything, but each phone call costs so little to make, it's still worth it. Or at least it was. I don't know how the DNC list affects things.

Spam e-mail, of course, is even worse, since it's practically free. You really don't need to sell much to make a healthy profit with that crap.

I just let the answering machine pick up. If I pick up, and I hear a recording, I just hang up.
