Which Disney Song?

I am in my church youth choir. Each year we have a fund raiser show. This year the theme is Disney. The shows always have a large attendence of usually over 2,000 people.

We do many group numbers, but we are allowed to audition for solos also. The choir director told me that I need not audition, but just tell her which song I want to sing and it is done.

So, I ask you this. What do you recommend? I am a tenor with a baritone range. I want to keep away from way over-done songs, ie A WHOLE NEW WORLD.

I am leaning towards I WAN'NA BE LIKE YOU from The Jungle Book.

And, side thought, why do the girls get the best solo Disney songs?

Part of Your World, Beauty and the Beast, I Won't Say (I'm in Love), etc

But the guys do get the best solo/group songs...

I wouldn't say the girls have the best songs. I really like Hercules' I Can Go the Distance.

this isn't a suggestion for you but please please please do Zero to Hero from Hercules with your choir! SUCH a fun song!

I love the more obscurer Disney songs - like my favorite Disney song is "Fortuosity." There are many, many songs that don't appear in the animated films that are just as fun and not as overused.

Let me know if I can be of any help - Disney music is one of my passions.

ONCE UPON A DREAM is mainly a song sung by Briar Rose, but her Prince chimes in for a bit towards the end.

i've heard that disney does not allow groups to perform "disney songs" at disney.

If I Can't Love Her-Beauty and the Beast (Broadway)

"Go the Distance" is for a high tenor, or at least the Michael Bolton (ugh) version. I sang it last year, and the range is extremely high, a C sharp above middle C at one point.

"If I Can't Love Her" is great for a baritone, highest note being an F above middle C. I reccomend this over "Go the Distance" for sure. It's also very powerful when acted a little.

"I Wanna Be Like You" sounds like it could be very cool, but "I Could Go the Distance" would be great, too.

I guess it would be baritone with tenor range. I can go as low as I need but can also hit a high b-flat with no strain.

Yes you can be a bari-tenor...there's such a thing Seany. Traditionally, a lot of Broadway males are bari-tenors because they have the higher flexibility to sing tenor pieces, but the low notes to sing the real baritone parts.

I'm a bari-tenor too Priest, same exact high note too. GOOD FORTUNE BARI-TENORS!

I hate the baritenor moniker. You're just a dramatic tenor if you can hit a B flat.

I would suggest picking up the Alan Menken songbook and singing "Proud of Your Boy." It's a song that was cut from Aladdin.

"Go the Distance" is another great song - I prefer the Roger Bart movie version myself (a little bit more upbeat and moves more nicely) but I don't know if you can find that one in songbooks.

I'm probably no help at all as I am definitely not a singer and don't really know what the range for a bari-tenor would be! But I could list Disney songs for days so maybe if you could post some examples I could be more helpful?

Here is a link to the lyrics...

It was written for the context of Aladdin singing to his mother about how he was going to be better than just a street rat and make his mother proud. I believe it would've been roughly around the time when he sings "One Jump (reprise)." But this was back when Aladdin was supposed to be a young boy with a mother so it doesn't exactly match up to the finished movie.
