Erika,

Posted: 7/16/06 at 12:46pmThanks for the concern, but the fire is east of us. They claim we haven't grown back enough from the 2003 blazes to pose a risk anyway.

lady godiva: I am feeling better, thanks. And the Codeine helps a lot! hehehe
DAME: I know, this heat is just unbelievable, isn't it? I have to go back to work tomorrow (just a half day), so hopefully it'll cool off at least a little. Thanks for the good wishes...I'm feeling a little better every day. =)

Erika, get better soon! So glad to see you around these parts! We're a good bunch, and not the lushes one might think. Ok... some of them are lushes.

Posted: 7/16/06 at 1:16pmDame - character costumes have electric fans built inside of them.

Yes, once. My fan didn't work, but it was a not-often used costume. So it was hot.
I'm sure the costumes are maintained a lot more consistently at Disney.

DAME: Well, yes and no. When we're offstage, we're in a nice, air-conditioned greenroom. However, our theatre is an outdoor amphitheatre. So it's HOT HOT HOT. And none of our costumes have any fans or ventilation (not even the poor dwarfs - and I spelled it that way on purpose). I counted, and I'm wearing SIX LAYERS of clothing on stage. In 95 degree heat. Or hotter! Oy vey.
DayDreamer: Thanks so much! Yeah, you guys don't seem too scary...yet. :-P
Rath: I think you're right about the characters who wear heads. Chip and Dale, Goofy, etc... Where did you work??? I must know!

Posted: 7/16/06 at 1:38pmErika.. on the average how many showd do you do a week? And did you have to re-audition? My friend Joy did the Saloon show back in the day and they would make them re audition every few months.. which she hated and always bitched about.

Posted: 7/16/06 at 1:43pmWell, there are 5 shows a day, but you usually get swung out of at least one show, so most folks do about 4 in a day. I'm pretty lucky, in that I get to be the swing three days a week, so for those three days, I only do two shows. (One as the Queen and one as the Hag.) However, to pay for that, I'm the Hag on the one day a week where we have no swings at all and therefore have to do all 5 shows that day. In a latex mask. And wool. And a hood. Ugh. So, in short, I end up doing 15 shows a week. And no, I didn't have to re-audition. =) Yay!

Ha!
Erika, I did a three-day event for Nickelodeon. It was so much fun! Paid better than temp work too, and it was more physical and had quite a bit more downtime. I'd do it all the time if it was available.

Posted: 7/16/06 at 4:05pmThanks, liotte! The surgery went fine... I'm sore, but the Codeine helps with that. I should get my results in a few days. (I had an excisional biopsy...) Keep good thoughts for me, OK? =)

Hey Erika - Codeine is your friend, but Vicodin is the master!
I hope you are feeling OK, and are surviving the heat OK.
Get well soon.

Actually, they wanted to prescribe Vicodin for me, but I can't tolerate it at all. Makes me very nauseated. Codeine is better for some reason...which the doctor said is odd, 'cause most people are the other way around, but whatever works, right? :-P
Thanks for the good thoughts!
