I think it was more of a role issue than color issue. Vocalists and out front people always get the recognition.

I think it was both role and color. But how many kids picked up an electric bass, hearing the sound on records though not knowing the name of the musician? That sound has influenced so many music styles, not to mention the delivery of the singers whom he recorded with.

Never underestimate the power of the bass.
