I don't believe in drinking on an empty stomach, ET... :)
but let me put out some crudites....
You are PURE EVIL! And I have no will power! That's why we love you!
*snacks*
Glitz,
What kind of boys?
Addy;
Any official reviews on Liza in the press?
At least if there are crudites we can PRETEND we're doing something healthy while we're drinking! Of course, vegetables don't do QUITE as good a job of absorbing alcohol as some things...
Oh how I have missed these chats... talk of alcohol absorbtion and other sordid tales...
PJ, I would never wear something that dowdy. Besides, I'm going with slits now instead of pleats.
Dame, I haven't seen any - but I'll do a search to see if I missed one.
So, I actually haven't been drinking...but I think in honor of this reunion I will have just one little one. And some food.
Now, where were we?! Let's catch up...
dame...pip, bt and i are just playing on the boards today! i'm sure that you didn't even realize that we were ever gone! =)
From the NY Daily News:
Liza pulls no punches
in Westbury gig

Liza Minnelli performs on stage Friday at the North Fork Theatre at Westbury on Long Island.
After a tumultuous year spent struggling with her estranged husband, a litigious bodyguard and a December stint in a White Plains psych ward, Liza Minnelli returned to a local stage this weekend for the first time since her celebrated "Liza's Back" show in 2002.
Launching a three-night stint at the North Fork Theatre at Westbury on Friday, Minnelli treated fans to some of her classic repertoire, as well as a few lesser known songs from "Chicago" and "Cabaret."
She seemed to be building on the momentum of recent successes, including a recurring cameo in the Emmy-winning "Arrested Development" and a starring role opposite Parker Posey in the upcoming "The Oh in Ohio."
Although Westbury's theater in the round (formerly the Westbury Music Fair) was far from sold out, Minnelli's fans were emphatic in their support, giving the 58-year-old singer standing ovations after every song.
In turn, Liza told the fans she thought of them as the only real family she has.
She even made a sly reference to her travails, saying, "You might think that I go out at night dancing or - beating people up. When I'm not working on the heavy bag, I particularly like studying and finding and discovering old English folk ballads."
That led to one of the night's most interesting musical moments, an adaptation of a folk song set to an arrangement that incorporated elements of ragtime, show tunes and art songs. Minnelli's many problems sometimes obscure her talent, but when she's singing, Liza is an undeniable force.
While her 2002 "comeback" shows reeked of a desire to prove she hadn't lost a step, she wasn't striving as hard in this setting. That meant there were no high notes just beyond her range, and no unflattering costumes just a few stitches too snug.
She sent messages of independence with "I Am My Own Best Friend" from "Chicago" and "So What?" from "Cabaret." And she was in superb form by the time she hit the title song of "Cabaret" and her old standby, "New York, New York."
Minnelli's inventiveness and energy were in marked contrast to opening act Ben Vereen, who turned in the kind of schmaltzy, overwrought set that inspired Bill Murray to create his infamous "SNL" lounge singer.
In a tribute to Sammy Davis Jr., Vereen even dropped a bizarre reference to police brutality - "Uh-oh, Rodney King. Get out da car!" - in an exaggerated voice reminiscent of Kingfish from "Amos n' Andy."
Both Vereen and Minnelli have suffered the kind of physical and psychological setbacks that could undo any performer. However unlikely it may seem, Minnelli is the only one who can still transform her suffering into art.

well addy...seeing as though you asked...what do you want to know?!?!?
oh, I don't think it's a good thing to drink champagne through a straw...
PalJoey - thanks. I think I agree with it - although I didn't find Ben Vereen to be quite so "lounge act-y". (The Rodney King reference was odd, though...we all just kind of looked at eachother). Regardless, it was Liza's night, and she was fabulous!
glitz, anything special happening in your world?
PalJoey;
Thank you for the review. It sounds like a wonderful evening. Addy; since you were there.. do you agree with the review?
She hit Cabaret and New York, New York right out of the park! We were standing and cheering at the end.
It is a shame the venue was not sold out. However.. that is typically a hard weekend since everyone is away.
addy...if you're asking if there is a special man in my life right now...the answer is most certainly...YES! am i hoping that he is going to move to michigan VERY soon...YES! am i incredibly happy...YES! YES! YES!
I love Piper Heidseck, but the straws make me giggle! Seeing girls at clubs sipping champagne through straws makes me think of the days when makeup smeared.
*air-kisses Cookie on both cheeks, takes a Piper with a straw and holds it up for a toast*
Here's to Liza! More lives than a cat--and more comebacks than her mother!
He has to b special if he is willing to move to Michigan. ( BRR)
I am sure you do.
glitz - now THAT'S the kind of news I like to hear!
(you knew I was asking...)
Let's toast to good news!
PalJoey - LOL at clubs and girls and smeared make-up!
speaking of my happiness....where did pip go?
