funnily enough, I learned this about 17 years ago, and still remember it to this day. (well, most of it).ON monday I was sent an email that directed me to a link that challenged me to name every state within 10 minutes. and that's the song I used to do it.

I HATE that song! I never learned it because I went to a private Catholic school growing up, but all of my friends who went to public schools did. Whenever we get together with some booze, they sing it over and over and over again. It drives me insane.
Because of this song I can successfully name all 50 states in alphabetical order within a few minutes. Another useless talent:)
Oh yeah, and I learned the song off a RECORD.

I went to Catholic school and learned this song. Still remember it. It's the way I remembered the names of all 50 states.
This is my personal favorite "School House" song.

Adamgreer: Good to know.
defyingravity, my kids are in theatre camp this week and they are doing a production based on Schoolhouse Rock (they are little, 5 and . I don't know if they are doing that one or not. The only one I know for sure is "Conjunction Junction"
Ok..that track is from the 2005 5th Grade Music Connection textbook by Silver Burdette. Why do I know that, because it's the series I currently teach from. This song is one of those "if I need to throw in an extra lesson" song. The kids love it, and it's a challenge, even though, personally, if I never hear it again, I'll die happy.

We did "Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr" and my favorite is Elbow Room.

skb, that must be the same one my kids are doing....that song was in the book they got to bring home.
I can't wait to see it tomorrow. The director actually called me this afternoon and said how wonderful my son was and how much they all love him. Of course maybe she does this for all the kids, but it still made me feel proud.
Probably. I had solos for Interjections, Adjectives, and Nouns (i THINK). It was a good time. Its a short show as well.
Yeah, they told us 45 minutes.
I prefer the Anamaniacs, states and capitals:

Strangely, I never learned that song in school. I have no idea how I learned all 50 names, plus location, but I did. I remember in 6th grade we had a little test on that by filling out a blank map, and the only ones I really messed up were Delaware, Maryland, and Washington D.C. I even could name a good number of state capitols.

I totally learned this in 3rd grade, and I still remember it and use it.
I LOVED that Animaniacs USA capitals clip when I was younger
And upon rewatching it, I found the USA Presidents one too... and I just added two helpful new verses:
Through the Clintons then will forge
An idiot who's name is George.
The son of a fool before him,
Whom used the Supreme Court to win.
But never fear, my little friends.
The USA will turn right again
With someone, a dream upon his back,
Named Obama... that's right, BARACK!

I learned it in 4th grade chorus too. Any time I need to think of a state for a trivia question, I run through the song. Has it gotten to the point that enough people actually can do this that it's not really a talent any more? Sad...
We LOVED singing this in music class. I too memorized the states in alphabetical order because of it and never forgot it.
Sadly I've also had the song on my computer for about 6 years now!
i like this one

I went to private Catholic school as well and *I* learned it. Thanks to that song I can now say all 50 states in alphabetical order in under 30 seconds. Because I'm a freak LOL
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...
Reading the thread title alone got this stuck in my head. I still remember the whole thing. I think I learned it in third grade, and I can still recite the states in alphabetical order in fifteen seonds.
